I was reading the land transactions in the OKC Business. I noticed that City Bites had purchased land this past week at I-40and Walker. Hmmm...................

City Bites is already downtown -- Leadership Square.

metro

Okay, another location in the CBD a possibility??

Midtowner
01-20-2006, 08:41 AM
Doubtful unless they're moving. There's a sub stop at Leadership and a Subway accross from the Courthouse (in what building I forget), not to mention numerous other sandwich style shops. I think City Bite's location is perfect and they have a great lunch crowd.

metro

Right, I understand that too. It's doubtful that would make a good location but why would City Bites have interest in a property there??

Midtowner

They may be moving. I-40 & Walker is not the greatest part of downtown. I imagine that compared to the rest of downtown, land is relatively cheap. It could be an investment, or they may have data that tells them that they'll do more business with a store there.

If it is actually at the junction with I40, they could be seeing a lot of traffic in five years or so when the interstate gets converted to a boulevard.

metro
01-20-2006, 10:35 AM
True, they could be holding onto it for future plans, although I think that would have to be more than 5 years out before it is finished. Once I-40 relocation is done, then they start the work on the boulevard

It'll be interesting to see the land deals that go on around the area where the new boulevard will go.

It's exciting to see all this happening. From downtown to the river will be pretty much a blank slate ready to be developed. Very cool.

It would actually be pretty smart to buy up land around the present I-40. I have a strong feeling, land along the Blvd. will be pricey in the near future.

Looks like City Bites will be replacing the former Shorty Smalls just south of Broadway and 33rd. A temporary sign went up today.

Sandwiches...spuds.and cookies!!! Sorry, I am serious when it comes to my food. But I would take City Bites over any other sandwich place anyday.

City Bites is better than any sandwich place except Quiznos--and it's local.

City bites is superior food quality....sometimes the "hipness" of the young staffers is a bit too much, as they seem cliqueish and talk amongst themselves way more than with the customers....
not a good habit in the hospitality industry.

I agree with the customer etiquette Edward, the food is amazing but they seem to worried about their social lives than taking an order

city bites has excellent food...but needs some better customer service training...

Just drove by and the odd-looking new building between Firestone and the old Goodyear (across from Taco Bell and Braums) is finally getting a sign, one with the City Bites logo on it.
My little sister worked at the 74th & S Western City Bites in the late 80's and I ate there frequently, and now it is my 4-year old's favorite place (she calls it Silly Bites because of the wacky stuff inside).
I like the Mesquite Chicken on Everything Bread along with a City Snicker brownie (sooo good but probably sooo bad for me lol). I live about 5 minutes away so they will probably be getting a lot of business from me once they open.

Ye haw....won't have to go to Norman or I240 and Western to get my baked tators (smoked turkey) and all those good subs. It's good to see this area rebounding from the old walmart days.

I wish they put a City Bites somewhere down in Bricktown. It is good stuff.

That's adorable that she calls it that. It gave me a chuckle.

That side of town does need a Taco Bueno. I'm really surprised there isn't one of the east side of Moore.

I LOVE City Bites, but I hope the new store has better ventilation because the ventilation system on NW Expy is terrible! :( I can't get out of there w/o smelling awful the rest of the day!

I know a lot of businesses cut corners to get new stores open in a timely manner. Heck, I know a few construction companies who make it their business to do so, but it really does make a difference.

Are they a national chain?

Local, although they have tweaked their concept as to possibly franchise and or go regional/national. The new Edmond store on Broadway, and I would assume the new Moore store, would be very similar.

The HDQ is located on Memorial Road, just south of Oklahoma Christian.

I think it is because there is a Taco Bell already in place in that shopping center. I drove by there today to see how the construction was coming along. Plus, I grew up on the east side of Moore, so I wanted to see how much things had changed.

FWIW, City Bites is going to be closing the location at I-240 and Western, moving it to a new site at I-240 and Walker on the south side of the expressway.

That's pretty close to Jersey Mike's (who also has GREAT sandwiches), which is out in front of WalMart. Probably better visibility though.

Really? Well, I like their desserts but am sorry to see Charlie Bean going. I hung out there while I was in town in July using their internet and drinking their coffee - which was good. Do you know if the same people will be running it?

I don't believe so... I think the owners of Charlie Bean will be continuing their online business. If I remember correctly, City Bites is owned by 4 brothers (last name Blevins).

I'm guessing the economy shut them down... but I suppose only they would know. I think I read November for City Bites scheduled opening.

what happened to charlie bean? i thought they did decent business.Mickey-D's ran 'em outta business, offering FREE coffee drinks with your breakfast. Every city, big or small needs a coffee shop - a place to sit, relax, talk to friends. Mickey-D's didn't think so.

Haven't hit a CB in a long time, not sure why, just haven't. They seem to get by well enough without me though.
Do they still do a pot roast filled tater?
Do they still build the (odd to me) see-out facilities?

I can't imagine even considering that the see-out is only odd to YOU. I refuse to use them. Gives me the absolute creeps. Makes me shudder. Everytime I've gone in there, I have turned around and come back out. That is just wrong.

Wait a sec, what are you two talking about? See-out facilities?

At least one of them has one way glass in the bathroom so that when you are in there, you have a full view of the restaurant. You can't see IN (allegedly) but you feel like you are using the facilities in full view of the other patrons. No thanks!!

People... It's a two way mirror. You cannot see in the bathroom even if you pressed your face against the glass. At best you might see a shadow and nothing more.

Then again if you did that... I would think people would ask you to stop or at least question what you were doing.

City Bites...Yawn, go to Jersey Mikes, your taste buds and wallet will thankyou.I have to agree with you on this...City Bites seems pretty boring compared to Jersey Mike's, and CB's food seems outrageously overpriced anymore. I feel ripped off every time I eat there.

On a side note, I DO have the recipe for one of their cookies, so check my other posts if anyone is interested.
