When I was 16 or 17, my brother and I woke up demanding where our Thanksgiving dinner was and when it was going to be served -- needless to say, it was absolutely the rudest thing that I could do to a single mother. So she turned the tables -- she volunteered us to head into the city (San Francisco) where we were living and we got to spend the next 5 hours serving veterans, homeless and down on their luck individuals.

Fast forward 24 years and add an 11-year old daughter and 16 year old son and I'm looking to do the same thing locally. So my question is this -- are there any shelters or missions that I can bring my family to give back this Thanksgiving. I know it's late notice -- but we would do Christmas as well. I so badly want to thank my mother for her inspiration and showing me how to give back -- I'd like the opportunity to show my kids the same humility.
