Has anyone else seen the Dodge commercial showing pictures of OKC and Yukon? At the end of the commercial it show a new Dodge crossover vehicle sitting in a field and the voiceover states that if you find this vehicle it is yours to drive away. I saw it yesterday watching an NFL game. Tonight, I saw a slightly different version that stated there were 3 vehicles spread across the US but it still had pictures of Route 66 and the Yukon grain elevators?

Don't fall for it. There are many dealerships advertising free vehicles to winners. How often do you receive such huge postcard with a "key" attached to it? Mmmhmmmm. Its just false advertising to lure people onto their lots hoping they fall in love and be trapped in financial woes for years to come. Free Dodge my ass!

This reminds me of the old Lynn Hickey Dodge off of n may and 39th that had the spike traps that activated if you entered and wouldnt let you leave.

Thunder, do you ever actually think or use google before you type a response? Dodge is promoting their new Journey SUV and have actually hid 3 of them somewhere in the U.S. One on the west coast, one in the Midwest and one on the East Coast. These are no bait and switch promos by a dealership. This actual promo was a topic of my marketing class this fall. The only relation Dodge has with a dealership in each of the 3 areas is that the dealership is responsible for the placement of the car and the cleaning/detailing work after the SUV is found. From what we discussed in class is Dodge delivers a SUV to the dealership and then the dealership will then take the SUV to a location determined by Dodge.

Also, Yes the car is somewhat free. The lucky person to find it will have to pay tag/title/tax.

The one hidden in Oklahoma was found in Cheyenne.

Incorrect.

When a vehicle is free, the price is $0, therefore no tax. The person simply pay for tag and title. :-)

The car is free from sales tax but you are still liable for the taxes paid to the IRS. You have to report it on your taxes as income and report the fair market value of the car. In this case the car is worth around $20,000 and the winner will probably owe about $5,000-$6,000 in taxes.

Kind of like the lottery, you win money and the IRS gets their share.

Remember Google can be your friend try it.

WOW!!! This is very dirty business by the IRS and I will be looking out in my lifetime for the next potential President to advocate the extermination of the IRS. This is very dirty to force people paying much more to IRS than they would when purchasing a vehicle.

Many automotive (and other industry) TV ads are produced for different geographic markets, which is why this specific commercial showing in Oklahoma have the OKC & Yukon images at the beginning. Have you noticed how so many national ads seen here have a voiceover with a southern drawl? That works here, but wouldn't work in other, non-southern markets which use different voiceovers. (I suppose that actor Joe Pesci does the voiceovers for New York!)

While not a bad idea the IRS will never be exterminated you can count on that. They will always be there to keep their grubby little paws in your pocket whether its earned income or winning at the casino.

I have seen these commercials here in Florida and noticed Yukon right away.

Thunder - if you want to have a stroke look up imputed income. It is worse than you think.

The Dodge journey was found out by Elk City. It was the second of 3 vehicles to be found. These commercials have been running in Dallas and Denver that I know of. If you look on YouTube, it gives the clues to find the car. The East coast promo starts up September 24.

Interesting turn of events for the Oklahoma winner of the Dodge Journey.

Yup, not accepting it is clearly evidence of guilt. He knew where it was.

I'd rather find a free Chrysler 300C.

Not to burst your bubble, but (in addition to federal and state income taxes) you will owe excise tax on the fair market value of the vehicle, to be paid at registration.

Interesting article about the Oklahoma placed vehicle and how the winner "Oklahoma Highway Patrol officer Brad Neidy—ended up declining the prize when it was alleged that he may have known about the general location of the vehicle after helping to close streets so the agency could film there."

If you park a brand new car in a small town and leave it there, then run a national commercial about a hidden brand new car, I would hope the police are the first to find it. Maybe next time the can just bury a box with car keys in it and directions to where the car is parked. Then they can be there with cameras rolling when the 'new owner' shows up.
