Between all of the competing technologies (Mobile WiMax, HSPA+, and LTE) and lofty speed claims by the carriers, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. That's why Laptop decided to extensively test the four major carriers in five cities nationwide — using phones, USB modems, and mobile hotspots — to tell you which networks truly deliver on the 4G promise. Thank God '4G' LTE is in Oklahoma City. The tests above confirm my experience with the laptop stick. I can easily hit 10Mbps just about anytime. Late at night, I'll top 15MBps.

I was at a convention in Dallas a couple of weeks ago with some friends and they were getting close to 100MBps down on their Thunderbolts. O_o. I was astonished. I didn't know that was possible on a mobile device..

Maybe it was showing kbps speeds versus Mbps. Here's a review of Thunderbolt and its speeds: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2382155,00.asp

"On average, I got 11.8Mbps down tethered, 9.6Mbps on the phone and 6.3Mbps with the hotspot. Upload speeds were also fast; about 2Mbps with the hotspot and 4Mbps tethered. "

diggyba,

Maybe you were seeing Thunderbolt ports in action? There is the HTC Thundebolt spartphone and then there is the Thunderbolt i/o device that transfers at up to 100Mbps between connected devices (like USB, Firewire). That Thunderbolt is most likely what you were seeing. Here's a look at the i/o Thunderbolt (drool):

I never saw anything. It was word of mouth. Some of my friends like to exaggerate so that was probably the case.
