Can anyone give insight as to how often a tropical system has actually busted a drought in Oklahoma over the past 100 years or so? Maybe the statistic could encourage us? Or...maybe discourage? Just curious...

IIRC, Hurricane Allen in 1980 was the force that finally broke that historic heatwave in Texas & OK.

It seems like this year is a total bust for Hurricane Season. I don't consider stray storms to count (that is just me).

Mother Nature better be giving us frigid long-term Canadian weather with constant Blizzards this Winter, because we have suffered enough with this unforgiving Heat Wave.

We suffered enough with THAT last February. No thanks. A little snow here and there I'll take. Blizzards that shut the whole city down, I'll pass.

I find it amazing that a Blizzard can shut a city down, but a Heat Wave keep the city going.

A heat wave doesn't make it impossible to drive.

Heat waves are often far more destructive than high-drama occurrences like blizzards, tornadoes and hurricanes.

I know in 1980, a couple thousand people died due to heat-related issues and billions in crops were lost. This is shaping up to be worse.

Hurricane season is 6-1 thru 11-30. Plenty o' time left.

Hurricane season doesn't hit its peak season until the first half of September. Plenty of years things stay quiet and then in Sept you have them lined up in the Atlantic.

A tropical system can definitely help with it, but I'm not sure how many have been directly related to busting droughts or stopping heat waves.

Didn't we get moisture from a tropical system in 2006 that began the end of that drought, or am I dreaming? That was a pretty severe drought (Lake Thunderbird was at extremely low levels) and it was a distant memory after all the rain and flooding in 2007 (including 3 straight weeks of measurable rainfall, often over an inch, every single day) that also included a tropical system that caused a lot of damage in OK (TS Erin).

Among the most unforgettable tropical storms in Oklahoma that produced a lot of rain happened in 1986. But don't know if it was credited with also being a drought buster.

Was this the storm that moved back and forth across the state? Not saying that we need another Erin but a nice tropical mass sitting over the State for 24 to 36 Hours would be really nice.

I think it was Erin that became a Hurricane over OKC when it produced an eye. Is this a great state or what?
