The Oklahoma City ward boundaries are being redrawn. There is a public meeting on August 9. See the link below for the proposed changes:

I am super excited because my neighborhood will likely switch from Ward 1 to Ward 2. Ward 2 is absorbing the Will Rogers Park area and neighborhoods to the west. I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on the proposed changes.

Excellent, long overdue, we really need to add about 2-4 wards.

I agree more wards are necessary but it will be a cold day in hades before that happens. The current council does not want it, and the political movers and shakers don't want it either.

Glad that i will still be in Shadid's district (on the Portland dividing line). Looks like the biggest change in land area is shifting from wards 1 (Marrs) & 8 (Ryan), with Marrs growing by quite a bit. I take it that although large in land area, small in population?

Don't see them adding any wards as they would have to reconfigure the "Horseshoe" at City Hall. LOL

I agree more wards are needed. Heck St. Louis (population 320K) has 28 alderman districts, so a few more here wouldn't hurt.

I wonder how all of those people living just west and south of the Edmond city limits in ward 8 feel about being lumped in with ward 7, one thats largely urban and poor in makeup (Skip Kelly's district)?

I agree. It's politically very unpopular right now. I would just like to see something take shape for the southside. There is no point in minimizing this community by gerrymandering it off to every viable adjoining ward.

For Pete’s sake

Councilman Pete White floated the idea of 10 City Council wards, but an eight-ward plan will go before council.

In a "More Info" sidebar about EMSA the Oklahoman had this,

Ward boundaries: New ward boundaries to reflect the city's changing population won approval. Population growth in northwest Oklahoma City was the main driver in requiring redrawn boundaries of the city's eight wards. A large chunk in the west of Councilman Pat Ryan's Ward 8 was lopped off and added to Councilman Gary Marrs' Ward 1, along with other, much smaller changes in the other wards. Laws require city council wards to have comparable population sizes, and the U.S. Census last year showed adjustments needed to be made because of the city's shifting population. The council unanimously approved the changes, which were presented at the two most recent council meetings.

A 10-ward map has been added to the link. Final hearing is on Aug. 30. They did not approve the boundaries, as has been reported elsewhere.
