What is everyone planning to do? Annual traditions?

For me, its an annual tradition to take mom to the OKC Zoo (except for last year partially broken when taking her early on Mother's Day). We are for sure going this year and it will be hot, hot, hot! I have not decided to rent her a regular wheelchair for $5 or the electrical scooter for $20. Last year, I rented the regular wheelchair and pushed her around. It'd be nice if both of us enjoy the electrical scooter, but that will be $40.

After that, I will make sure mom come with me to Bricktown for the shocking, mind-blowing, sensational fireworks! I know exactly where to park (for $5) with front row access (to see the cones mounted on trailers).

So, it will be the day to enjoy pictures and videos with my brand new Samsung Epic (#1 Android Smartphone available only at Sprint). The quality is far superior to my Samsung Exclaim phone (recently put it to peace - yes, still works). And I'll record the fireworks! Yay! :-D

Okay... So... What is your plan?

This is last year, so posting them here for everyone to enjoy. In two parts, you can skip to Part 2 and fast-forward (nearly 9:00) to the ending with insane fireworks (don't forget to crank up the volume).

No fireworks down here in the Austin area this year because of the drought. Pretty much all of the displays were cancelled a few weeks ago.

My dad passed away on July 4th, 1971, me, my brother, sister, and our familes always get together to celebrate Independance Day and remember Dad. I was 11, my sister was 14 and my brother was 7, it will be 40 years ago on the 4th, but some days, it still seems like it was yesterday.

There are a bunch of burn bans in Oklahoma now. Pretty much anywhere west of I-35.

I've already heard news reports that this basically won't affect fireworks displays. State official have said that will be left up to individual cities.

Yeah, it may affect people shooting fireworks, but there will be a lot of them still doing it on private properties. The cities have the luxury of fire trucks, etc...on standby for official displays.

The metro is much better off than the further west you go, so probably will not affect fireworks in our area, but I heard at least a couple out west of Clinton decided to delay their fireworks till fall.

Our anniversary is the 4th (it was a PERFECT choice - you always have the day off and no matter what, there are fireworks). We generally celebrate by lunch at a nice place and it's quiet because everyone is off enjoying the sun. The dogs freak out over the loud noises which is a great excuse for us to stay home at night. We can see fireworks off in the distance if we squint. Party animals, that's us.

Will there be fireworks downtown on the 3rd and the 4th? I swear I saw on the calendar that is was only the 3rd because I remember thinking that was odd.
Also does anyone have any tips of the best place to park to watch the fireworks and about how early we would need to get there?

OKC is on the 3rd. Think I read it will be in the Coca-Cola Events center parking lot. ALong with fireworks, the OKC Philharmonic with Grammy and 33 time Dove award winning artist, native OKCitian Sandi Patty will be performing. They will also be performing at Yukon's event on Monday. Believe both start times are @ 8:30 pm

Know the OKC one is free admission (bring your own seating). Would love to go to both events but it is just too dang hot out there for me.

Also on the 4th. I know last year they did it twice on the 3rd and 4th. The bigger and longer fireworks should be on the 4th. If they cancel the 4th, then I need to know right now so I can leave my store early, get some sleep, then go out there tonight to video it.

Firefly, I know the perfect spot. Drive west on Reno. There is a gas station at a stoplight corner (across from Bass Pro Shop), pass that. I think the first street, turn right and go down. Its a dead end (can only turn left) and off to the right at the dead end is back area parking lots. Five bux to enter. Get there real early! Last year, I had perfect view of the cones, which is in the original post's videos.

Thunder, think the OKC one is only on the 3rd (today) so you may need to close up early.

I stand corrected:
http://okc.about.com/od/holidayevents/a/okcjuly4th.htm

Date and Times:
Red, White & Boom begins July 3rd with the OKC Philharmonic presenting Patriotic Pops in the parking lot of the Coca Cola Event Center. Joel Levine will conduct the concert and Sandi Patty will perform. On the 4th, there is RedHawks baseball.

There are fireworks on both the 3rd and 4th.

Location: Activities will again be in Bricktown this year, on the streets and at the Coca-Cola Bricktown Events Center.

Music: Admission to live concerts is free, and the 2011 schedule for performers is as follows:

July 3rd
* Grounds open at 6:30 p.m.
* 8:30 p.m.: OKC Philharmonic
* Followed by fireworks

July 4th
* Approx. 10 p.m.: Fireworks Extravaganza following the Oklahoma RedHawks Game

The downtown fireworks were great. The pups and I watched from our pocket park, as it was kind of lonely up on the porch with so many people at the park. There were a couple of claps of thunder that were a bit confusing, because it was hard to tell if they were part of the fireworks. I think I'm enjoying the rain as much as the fireworks. Downtown was absolutely packed with people....very festive.

Those electric scooters are 25 bux now. Opted just the regular wheelchair. Pushed her most of the way, then she pushed me a lil, then we walked the way back. I went to get my truck while she go in look at the front gift shop. Didn't know she passed out. :-/ She rode back with several men in a nice little white car.

I had a really hard time last night trying to get songs for the video. I needed four songs to fill it in, but could only successfully obtain two. Frostwire has been screwing with downloads....rather than downloading actual songs...it is just talking 'lawsuit' crap. I kept trying different sources and sending to my friend to 'test listen' and they were all bad except for two. So, I gave up and went ahead to upload to YouTube with no enhancement, but YouTube cried at it being over 1GB (way less than 2GB limit), so I had to lower the file size through a conversion (reduce screen resolution from mega-giant to whatever).

If I'm super bored, I might edit the video to show only the most active parts and use one song out of the two good ones that I have.

Why provide music for the fireworks unless it was part of the event? The fireworks display at Stillwater was bigger and lasted longer. Some of them sizzled instead of popped.
