several new studies show prolonged sitting is now being linked to increased risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer, and even early death.
This is an article that discusses some negative health ramifications of being sedentary. It makes good sense, to me. Television, desk jobs, video games (and in my case, quilting) aren't physically healthy, especially if that is all you do. Sounds obvious but I suspect it is more than just not consuming calories.

I pretty much have a desk job, but I get up and move around every chance I get. I feel better because of it. There are days though where I a glued to the desk. After work though, I'm usually out and about doing stuff with the kids. They won't let me sit still. ;)

My mother, who is 90, has led a generally sedentary life but didn't make it to that lofty age without having a heart attack and is somewhat obese.

Something's gonna get us in the end. Might as well be comfortable.

When I die, I'd rather be sitting down than standing up. Of course, peacefully in my sleep would be the best way.

Reminded me of the old saw .. When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep, like grampy did, not kicking and screaming like the passengers on his bus.
