I remember as a kid going to OU games in the '70s with my parents the card section in the NE corner of the stadium.

Then one year, maybe '75, last game, there was an uprising. Some of the students started frisbeeing their cards high in the air and it caught on like wildfire. The whole stadium watched in wonder as several hundred multi-colored cards were flung and reflung ending up scattered in adjoining sections all the way down to the sideline. Card section was disbanded after that.

I remember OU experimenting with a card section in the 70s, but it was a temporary experiment. I remember card sections being very big at USC and UCLA around that time, and that was probably the inspiration for OU's experiment. They've all died out now. Today's giant video scoreboards make the card section look pretty quaint. Plus, giving students things to throw (especially after fortification with ethanol) is not a good idea.
