Ok, I read a funny story this morning on a tech blog.

This last Monday, a guy out of nowhere sends a tweet to the mayor of Detroit "Philadelphia has a statue of Rocky & Robocop would kick Rocky's butt. He's a GREAT ambassador for Detroit."

To his credit the mayor (or a staffer) took the time to responded to such a silly post in a fairly dignified tweet back: "There are not any plans to erect a statue to Robocop. Thank you for the suggestion."

Well word got around town and around the internet. A local group has formed to try and see if they could make it happen. Started with a facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=176409349068272) to get the word out, talked to sculptors and metal workers to get the details on how they could do it, got an estimate on costs and started a project on kickstart (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/imaginationstation/detroit-needs-a-statue-of-robocop) to raise money. They are hoping to cast a 7 foot tall statue of RoboCop out of weatherized iron. Estimated costs 50,000 dollars. So as of this morning when I heard about it they had around 6,000 dollars donated by people who heard about it (over at max like three days) but as of right now (10 hours later) they have over 12,000. They already have a venue for the statue if they can get it built, in a park owned by a local urban renewal group.

Just watched that movie again last night!

Oddly, it was filmed in Dallas, not Detroit. Even has a scene from the famous Starck Club from the late 80's.

I knew the architect who did the house where the one guy was killed. It was a tech persons computer controlled house that was on several different shows like Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and PM Magazine where they actually interviewed the guy that I knew.

Here's a Popular Science article on Google (http://books.google.com/books?id=NUzwukoJzGIC&pg=PA90&lpg=PA90&dq=portia+isaacson+dallas+house&source=bl&ots=k0gd4zWLIT&sig=s5whvJcq24EF-3NiItnDODc_Hzk&hl=en&ei=ouhVTcDMJ8GCtgfgpuSnDQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CCQQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=portia%20isaacson%20dallas%20house&f=false) about the house.
