So I was out at Penn and Memorial today and noticed a huge construction haul away trash container. The Sportsman's Warehouse sign was gone. Anyone know what's going on over there?

Gold's Gym, a chain out of Texas, is turning it into a huge fitness center. I believe it will be the largest gym in their chain once completed.

Joe Gold, the originator of Gold's Gym sold out in 1970 to a franchise operator. He started another one near Muscle Beach in Venice, California called World Gym. World has since gone franchise as well, sold to Planet Fitness in 2006. Gold's was started 45 years ago in Venice, World about 35 years ago.

I remember Venice from the 1970's when it was a fun place. Then...last time I was there in the mid 90's...nothing but homeless lunatics, gang bangers with guns everywhere...and drug addicts of the most desperate sort. L.A. died about that time...and I left...

OKC used to have a Golds Gym on Broadway extension, adjacent from where Car Max is.

There was one off on NW Expy just west of Council about 15 years ago, too. It was near the Buy For Less

The one on Broadway was in a stip mall connected to Sam's. I used to be a member there. It was really plain and catered to heavy lifters.

Grew up working out in Golds. Some of the best and worst gyms i've ever belonged to with the absolute highest membership fees i've ever had to pay. That said, i cant wait to see what they do with the place.
