An idea that has been bouncing back and forth in my head for years. Would any of you be interested in being part of a community Wind Ensemble if one were to be organized? Also, if there were a community Big Band/Jazz Ensemble, is there any interest? Other cities I have lived in has had multiple concert bands/jazz bands that were made of people ranging from high school students to retired folks that still wanted to play. This always gave me an outlet for my playing interest. If enough interest exists I am willing to go forward with locating a practice venue, acquiring music, larger instruments, etc.

I think there already is something similar to this. I think you can find information about it at the OKC Philharmonic. They should be able to get you a hold of the right people.

I thought there was a community band in Edmond, but I could be mistaken. I played in one when I lived in Middle Georgia. The director happened to be head of the music department for the public school system, so we were able to practice at one of the high schools one night a week...Mondays I think. The musicians were a mix of high school, college, working adults, and retirees. We had two public concerts every year - Christmas and early summer. The Christmas concert was at a church and the summer concert was outdoors in a park (we actually had a real covered bandstand in the park). The summer concert was pops oriented with Broadway medleys (yuk), patriotic marches, and pieces that people recognized and could hum to. I play trombone and we had an extremely strong low brass section. It was odd b/c our woodwinds and trumpets were not very good, and it's usually the other way around. The director was also a trombone player so he could be relied on to pick music that featured low brass. After rehearsals and concerts, we'd always meet somewhere for coffee & dessert. I enjoyed it immensely, it was a great outlet and I had a lot of good friends. Sign me up!
