In your opinion, what team could the NBA do without if they had to eliminate one team?

Clippers...two teams playing in the same building is ridiculous. Or move them back to San Deigo.

It's easy to throw another city's team under the bus; take L.A. Clippers, their fans are the ones who can't obtain or can't afford tickets to the Lakers' games; Memphis' franchise was born out of that city's failure to acquire an NFL franchise as the State of Tennessee opened their checkbook and Nashville rolled out the red carpet to get NHL and NFL franhises for the Music City. Memphis had been courting the NFL for years; they did not receive any help from their state. When Nashville wanted a franchise, everybody and their dog came to their rescue.

This talk of NBA contraction is all about posturing. The NBA will not contract; it's only trying to put the NBA players' union on some kind of defensive where they contract salaries and not teams; then, the union and the owners both come out smelling like a rose.

I agree completely! Teams that should be under consideration to move: Clippers or the Nets (don't need two teams in a single city, even if the cities are big).

Since you need a team from the West and a team from the East to keep things even - Clippers and Nets

It's more likely that the Kings would fold if they can't get a new arena deal done in Sacto, and then there's Memphis. Yes, they're both from the west, but if contraction did occur, there would likely be some realignment. The Clippers, bad though they are, isn't going anywhere, and the Nets will be moving into a brand new arena in the next few years.

What do you think about all of this talk about the NBA contraction?? Do you think it will eventually happen?

Nope. It's a bargaining ploy. David Stern is talking about eventual expansion - in Europe and China, anyway. (I suppose they could move the Kings to Shanghai, but I don't see that happening.) If team valuations were crumbling, don't you think there would be some distress sales going on?

Why not move the Grizzlies to St Louis?
