"Eighteen Tributary Bridges will connect trails

Three of the 18 pedestrian/bicycle bridges over the creeks and streams that flow into the MAPS river lakes portion of the river corridor will be installed this week. The installations this week will be on the south side of the river at these locations:

* a quarter mile west of Portland

* immediately east of I-44

* west of Agnew

Trails are located on banks of the Oklahoma River. The 18 bridges will span tributaries along the bank to create one continuous trail that stretches from I-35 to Meridian Avenue. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is overseeing the bridge installation and completion is scheduled for mid-November.

The MAPS-funded portion of the river project is essentially done. The completion of all nine MAPS projects will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday along with the ribbon cutting of the Ronald J. Norick, Downtown Library.

Mayor Mick Cornett will host the celebration, which will also include comments by former Mayors Ronald J. Norick and Kirk Humphreys. The library was the last of the projects that sparked an ongoing Downtown renaissance that continues to exceed expectations and has drawn national attention."

This is great. Continuous public access is crucial for this riverpark to work...
