Mesta Festa

The fifteenth annual Mesta Festa will be held Saturday, October 9th at Perle Mesta Park. The event will begin at noon and end around 6:00pm. As always, the best in local entertainment will be on hand along with OKC’s best breweries. Beer and wine tasting will be provided by Bricktown Brewery, Coach’s, Belle Isle Brewery, Texas Sux Beer, Coop Ale, James E. McNellies Pub House, The Blue Note, Mustang Brewing Company and Battered Boar Brewing Company. Deer Creek Winery will provide wine tasting again this year.

What would any festival be without great food? Back by popular demand, The Prohibition Room, located at 23rd and Classen, will be at the park serving up their delicious Chicago Dogs. Big Truck Tacos will make an appearance as well. They are a local favorite and made a great contribution to the festive atmosphere last year. For something sweet, Bella Crema Gelato will be back for their sixth appearance at Mesta Festa.

The annual Chili Cook Off takes on all new meaning this year. As many of our neighbors know, Michael Persons was one of the founding members of the Mesta Festa Committee. Michael was very active in the neighborhood, having served on the board and participated in many fundraising events. Michael passed away suddenly in December of 2009. To honor Michael and his contribution to Mesta Festa, the Chili Cook Off will be known as the Michael Persons Memorial Chili Cook Off. Everyone is welcome to participate and compete in the cook off. Registration begins at 11:30 the day of the event at the park. Entry fee is $5 per crock-pot of chili. Prizes and bragging rights will be given to Best in Show and several other categories. Wilson Elementary School will once again be conducting the children’s activities, and a good time is promised!

Summer Steele has worked long and hard to get artists for the event. It’s not too late to enter your work in the art festival/sale/contest. Contact Summer Steele at ksummersteel@yahoo.com or Dana Meister at meisterdana72@yahoo.com.

Everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, kites, footballs, hula hoops, friends, neighbors, relatives -- anything and everything to make this a memorable event!

The event is free with a suggested donation of $12.00. If you would like to volunteer to help, contact Mary Jane Southwick at 850.4920

I notice that this is at the same time as the Plaza District Festival. This was probably discussed during planning but was any kind of joint promotion considered to appeal to those who might want to visit both since they are so close together?

And during the Deep Deuce Music Festival and the Regatta... It makes you wonder if they planned at all or planned a lot?!?

There's nothing wrong with having several events at the same time because there are only so many weekends during the year but I think some coordination in planning or promotion would be beneficial.

thought it was because OU has a bye week...

There's also a new music festival in Deep Deuce and a thing on 9th Street (Millionaire4Day). Busy weekend.

OU has a bye week and OSU is on the road...

I'm sure they all looked at the schedules and decided this would be the best weekend for their respective events.

Just got back from the Plaza Fest and the Mesta Fest. Plaza was okay - lots of craftsy vendors, but not much shade and hardly any food/drink choices. Really enjoyed a few hours at the Mesta Fest again this year. Found a shady spot with lots of friends, listened to good music, ate a Chicago Dog and some gelato.

Anyone who ever says again that this is a dull, boring town and nothing is ever happening just isn't trying or paying attention.
