NORMAN — A former University of Oklahoma basketball player who was part of the squad that played in the 2002 women’s national championship game was killed Thursday night in Milwaukee.

According to a story on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s website, 30-year-old Rosalind Ross was fatally shot in the parking lot of a local Popeye’s Chicken restaurant Wednesday night.

According to police, Ross was shot inside her car, apparently by someone she knew. A 27-year-old woman was taken into custody in connection with the shooting, although her name wasn’t available.

Ross was a standout basketball player at OU, specializing in three-pointers. She was taken by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2002 with the 16th overall pick in the WNBA draft.
