For the past few nights I have tried to defrag and my computer freezes about mid way through. I have scanned it,cleaned out the registry, and done all I know to do. Is there some secret program that I can use to clean my computer good and get it to defrag?I need help.

I tend to rely on AVG and Malwarebytes for rooting out any lingering baddies, then use ccleaner and defraggler, both free from Piriform and available off filehippo, to keep things tidy.

I have Kaspersky's internet security system on my computer now, and also use ccleaner and defraggler, both are great. I have used malwarebytes as well. Can't figure this one out. I can use the computer, scan it, but the defrag just stops in the middle and my computer freezes up. Any other ideas?

How tightly packed is your drive? If you have little free space, can you offload any space hawgs (Movies, mp3 etc) to CD, then try again? You can always add back afterwards any items you watch, listen to regularly.

It says I have 66% free space.

Another option might be to run your MS defrag since the Piriform defraggler isn't working for you. Or have you tried that already?

Get System Mechanic. You can find coupon codes online for up to half off. www.iolo.com. Best I've ever tried!!

Mac's are suppose to be really great. I haven't tried the MS defragger yet, might do that tonight.

Another thought. While I haven't had any issues with defraggler, maybe uninstall defraggler and then reinstall it fresh.
I've done that with other programs over the years.

Actually you are suppose to "index" your mac but most people don't.

I downloaded the System Mechanic and decided to keep my own security system rather than use theirs. I have been doing a scan now that was suppose to take 30-40 minutes, and I've been waiting over an hour and a half. I'm not a very patient person, so I wish it would hurry up. I like the set up, so I hope it helps.

How old is your computer? What is the model number? There are several factors. If it is really old, then it wouldn't be able to process these things quickly.

I finally got the scan finished last night, did all the other things to update the program, and actually defragged it. It started up this morning faster than usual. I think I maybe have a lot of programs on my laptop. I have a Sony Vaio laptop model # VGN-FW140E C600F3T7. We got it almost 2 years ago at Best Buy. As far as I can see, it's working fine. Just wonder if I still need the ccleaner to use along side the System Mechanic Pro.
