Today there are hundreds of thousands, if not more, teens listening to the Beatles, CSN&Y, the Who, etc. Does anyone believe that in 2055 your great-great grandchildren will collect holo-discs (or whatever media is dominant then) of Beiber and Gaga? How many 12 year old kids today could name any songs of New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, or any other corporate music groups from 15 years ago?

I agree with most of what you say except Lady Gaga. On the surface she seems to be just a gimmick act, but I think she actually has some good underlying talent and will be around for quite a few years. She may have to pull a Madonna though and reinvent herself several times. Bette Midler started out as mostly a gimmick type of act but she has had a long, varied, and successful career because she has real talent. On the other hand, the only thing Bieber really has going for him is his looks and as he gets older the appeal will lessen for the teenyboppers.

When it is all boiled down...I think it is great when a young kid can make a lifetime's worth of money before he has to shave! Good for him!

The sad thing about it is... he will probably join the ranks of every other flavor of the week pop star at some point and his parents will probably blow through it by before he turns 18.

Very few parents encourage their kids to set a reasonable portion of the money aside in a trust where it pays for college, their first house or their retirement.

I give it less then a year and he will be a has been. In the past the average pop star had a shelf life of at least three to five years. The internet has shortened that life span to maybe year or two if they are lucky.
