Does anyone know what the hell is the big black spot on Oklahoma Tower? Its driving me crazy, and it make the whole building look bad from the angle.

An air vent. Allows fresh air to enter the building's circulation systems.

Isn't it the exhaust system for the Beacon Club's kitchen?

This subject should be the banner at the top of every page. It should read:

****WARNING****

Oklahoma Tower's Black Rectangle is an Air Vent

LOL

I only say this because you see a question on this every year if not more. It's all good that you're asking. I just find it funny cause I hate that it's there too!

Thank goodness we have you, metro, to always refer those people to earlier threads on the same subject. :yourock:

What they should do is just paint it with lettering....something to the effect of "this is a vent"

Paint a mural on the side of the building making it look like a cigarette smoker exhaling. It worked at Times Square.

See, I always thought that the black spot at the top of Oklahoma Tower was just the corporate black hole where all of this city's good ideas go..

why can't they just paint the hole the same colour as the building - so it don;t look so much like a hole in the tower.

On the same thought, I do hope Beacon Club will move back to FNC. It just isn't Beacon Club without the Beacon and decor of the original space. ....

It may have been at one time but whatever they are exhausting through the vent may have discolored it.

How do you paint a hole?

Use a high quality airbrush?

How do you paint a hole?

Cover it up. They would have to engineer it in a way that retains unimpeded airflow.

using a screen, paint the screen. ...

Im sure you've seen them on metro busses, where the whole bus looks like a painted ad, but from the inside you can still see out the windows.

I may be wrong...I have to go downtown and take a look at that.

It isn't a hole, it is a vent which is more than likely has some sort of screen or louver over it to keep rain and wildlife out. They could have something to closer match the color of the glazing but it would be difficult to match such dissimilar materials. Like I stated previously, it could have originally been a color match but whatever they are exhausting may have discolored it over time.

I know the stainless ones at Mickey Mantle Steakhouse have to be cleaned quite often as well as the brick/cast stone below...which is why I argued to vent everything to the roof but the building owner didn't agree.

There are also two smaller side vents if you look (right) or east.
