Never thought I would see the day...

Linda Soundtrak returns to Oklahoma to shoot commercials promote new store | OKG Scene.com (http://www.okgazette.com/p/12776/a/5023/Default.aspx)

They are going to open a new store across the street from the original up on Penn/Hefner.

I know Verin won't have an ownership interest but how the store develops will be interesting to watch.

Much (everything) has changed on the retailing landscape since Soundtrak went out of business: the Internet, proliferation of huge discount chains, etc.

Hard to imagine how a small local store could compete as even big chains like Circuit City have given up.

I thought Ultimate Electronics used to be called Soundtrak at one time.

Great googley moogley...NO!

Though it's pretty fun to watch the old commercials and the products that they featured back then.

This is another example of "What could have been....". They were out and growing before Best Buy and Circuit City were really going strong. They could have been nationwide if they'd played their financial cards right.

Well, so long as everything old is becoming new again, I wanna use the time machine from the other thread and go back and get the Molly Murphy's folks and restart that lil' slice of fun too.

That way I can have loud, I can have obnoxious but I will get fed too!

Looks like the website has already launched, seems kind of generic to me.

Russell Kim - doesn't/didn't he run Audio Dimensions?

In any case, I don't think they will go far online with their website portion with prices like these:

Wow! I couldn't place them until I watched some of the old commercials on YouTube. Then it all came flooding back.

I remember thinking that Linda Soundtrak was kind of hot when I was a kid.

That was SoundTrack, a Colorado based company. They changed the name of the SoundTrack stores to Ultimate Electronics in 2005.

YouTube - Linda Soundtrak TV Commercials (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n5_l7JcORA)

This is a block of 3 commercials with the same theme. They are the only surviving Soundtrak commercials that I have ever been able to find.

Id really like to see the one with the Chirstmas Jingle where they have people dressed up as Frosty and Rudolph all playing instruments and all that.

Nothing is as bad as the Oklahoma Discount Furniture commercials.

"SALE SALE SALE NOW at...
Oklahoma Discount Furniture
Oklahoma Discount Furniture
Oklahoma Discount Furniture
...3 great locations"

and "...Futons, futons, futons..."

Sloggo must be in college by now! I love that they are going to try a comeback. But, Penn & Hefner? Really?

Although most commercials now days are nothing but trash, I always liked Linda. Both on screen and in person. I hope they are like the old ones.

BTW. It's not Sloggo, it's Sluggo.

I am happy that they are bringing back Soundtrak, I do miss the old commericals, I know her voice used to get on my moms nerves when I was a kid, but anyways I hope their commericals will be like the old ones.

I saw a commercial for the store but Linda was not on it.

I caught one a few days ago. I didn't pay too close of attention and the volume wasn't very high, so all I can recall was her clicking together the heels of her ruby red slippers and saying "There's no place like home". She may have been wearing a Santa hat as well.

What channel, and approximate time?

CS_Mike

I can't recall unfortunately. I want to say that it was before or during either an OU men's basketball game or a Thunder game. I'll be sure to pay more attention if I see it again.

There were some on last night after the 10:00 news on channel 5.

Just saw it. Chanel 5 after the news tonight. Had the No Place Like Home theme, but Linda has really dialed down the tone. She isnt barking the commercial at you like it was back in the 80s. But the cheese factor is still there. Ah, nostalgia.

Saw the commercial tonight. She really hasn't changed as much as I thought.
Mr. B is right, you don't have to mute it....then again, you might not want to watch it, either.

Wow, someone over at Youtube has already jumped on this and got all the commercials loaded into a single Video.

So what's going on with that area of the village. I was surprised to see Audio Dimensions move to their new location just because that area seems pretty dead to me. I had heard rumors that the Buy For Less shopping center across the street was going to get a facelift/makeover, but who knows when or if that will ever happen.

Man, the retail electronics biz is a tough one to compete in anymore. I wouldn't want to have to compete with Best Buy and Wal-Mart et al.

Man, the retail electronics biz is a tough one to compete in anymore. I wouldn't want to have to compete with Best Buy and Wal-Mart et al.

The one thing Best Buy and Wal-Mart are lacking is knowledgeable sales people. The few that have it feed people information with a fire hose.

If SoundTrak can fill the product knowledge gap that Circuit City abandoned when they laid off all their senior people they will do well. There are still a large number of consumers that have no idea how to shop for certain products.

Thundercitizen

Bestbuy has some knowledgeable people and is head and shoulders above WalMart.

Thundercitizen

Perhaps I should have said "a few" rather than "some", but certainly not "none".

fuzzytoad
12-11-2009, 01:21 PM
That sounds more reasonable.

Some of the things I've heard spout forth from the lips of a "knowledgeable" Best Buy employee could be refuted by a 9 year old in most cases. I actually saw it happen once in the computer department.

Well, maybe she was 10.

I just saw the commerical just a minute ago, she has really dialed down alot on her tone, but I thought the commerical was great.

I stopped in today to get an iPhone case as the one I had was nearly total fallen apart. She was there. Chatted with her a bit. Got a photo too.

Russell is a pretty sharp guy considering what he has done with Audio Dimensions over the years and starting it when he was still pretty young. I just remember him having one of the better car stereo systems in his Monza in high school.
