For those in OKC who would rather make Christmas purchases that do some real good, a new store just opened in Midtown at the Plaza Court Building.
First, the store is a volunteer-staffed, fair trade shop based in Oklahoma City. All profits from Global Market sales benefit PAMBE Ghana, a nonprofit organization based in OKC that provides excellent culturally appropriate primary education for children in Northern Ghana. (Maybe you saw the article in the Downtown magazine about it's founder, Alice Iddi-Gubbels)
All products are purchased from around the world; most from developing countries. Merchandise comes directly from artisans and producers, or is purchased through fair trade businesses. Artisans are paid a fair price for their products when it leaves their hands.
There are some amazing treasures in this store. Scarves, jewelry, pottery, baskets, beautiful handmade paper stationary and journals, and so much more.
The store is open Fridays and Saturdays from 11am-8pm and Sundays from 12-3pm. You can usually find it open during the week between 11-2pm so long as there is volunteer help available.
