This is sort of a pseudo poll, to determine if anyone feels the way I do.....

First, drive by Mercy Hospital some night and you will see that last week
they erected huge high wattage floodlights all around the north side
of the hospital and they all emit a "red" light up on the building......

Now, I have always held Mercy Hospital in incredibly high regard....they
have always treated me and my family with compassion and care
through the worst of times.......

but

I've got to assume that this choice of the color "RED" symbolizes
something in the Order of the Sisters of Mercy etc....such as the heart etc....
Blood of Christ.......I just don't know......

But everytime I drive by it now, all I can think of is "BLOOD".....blood
gushing out of the windows, blood covering the building.......call it
the permanent scar that the Shining movie left on me as a youngster,
or just my twisted sense of perception......but the color red for a hospital
is just in my mind a VERY poor choice......

They could have done blue, aqua, something soothing........something
still symbolic instead of using the color that incites rage in bulls.....

If anyone else feels as I do, that RED is a great color for stoplights,
not so great for the face of a hospital, maybe we should write a few
letters......if everyone thinks I'm nuts.......that's OK too....everyone
is entitled to their opinion

In all due respect, it's about time a building in Oklahoma City went with a floodlight color other than white. United Founders has different colored lighting around the tower, but those are not "floodlights" per se.

Personally, I'm with okcpulse....I'm glad someone is finally getting more creative and using something other than just plain white spot light. But, as zuluwarrior suggested, red might not have been the best choice of colors.

I've seen the new lights on United Founders Tower, as I live right up the street from there. Personally, I think they're unique, although they're not as visible as they could've been. I think different colors of spot lights would've been a better option.

I live about a mile and a half west of Mercy and I drive past almost every night on the home. In fact I haven't even noticed the new lighting...... I will have take a look see next time I'm out during the evening.

Blood?

Maybe it's just red for v-day?

It's a "TON" to spend on just VDay or a promotion.......
and I'm certainly not saying "blood" was their intent,
nor how other people might look at it, but I'm saying that
if it's "NOT" a temporary display, that the choice of color
is very odd for a hospital.....not as odd as painting the local
funeral parlor electric purple, but certainly not as good a choice
as some other more appropriate colors.......
I really "actually" hope it is a temporary display.....
I am in agreement with the other guy that white is getting very old.....

I don't know that it would cost a "ton" to place red filters over all of the spotlights that were already there.

Many places do seasonal lighting schemes. Off the top of my head, the office park off of Classen immediately south of the gold dome puts green and red lenses on all of their spotlights over the holidays.

Clear red plastic shouldn't cost that much.

I'll be interested to see if the colors change with the seasons. They may very well be choosing red to go with the Valentine's Season!

Speaking of colors, I've even noticed that Devon's sign downtown changes colors depending no the season. Pretty neat!

too little time to worry about it

I finally remembered to drive by Mercy. I didn't see any red lighting other than the aircraft clearance lights and the logo on the heart hospital.

The floodlights on sides are pure white and their is no way they could be mistaken for red.
Infact I think I noticed more white spotlights than anything else.

I think what you might have been seeing is the displacement of light from the amber parking lot lights. Those lights sometimes have a red hue when the weather is just right.

Apparently wasn't a permanent display, nor was it for Valentines Day....
was part of a National Promotion "Go Red for Women's Heart Health"
or something to that effect.
The Floods are in fact new, did cost a ton, and don't use plastic
lenses......the hospital was red for about 10 days.......
According to Mercy's marketing director, a "couple dozen" calls were received
overwhelmingly against the Intense Red Lights.....
I too think white is boring, but it looks like a hospital again......

If I had to go to the hospital, I'd want to go to the one with the purple neon.

It just looks cool.

How about black lights and a bunch of flourescent murals of X-rays painted on the buildings! Couldn't see them during the day but at night it would look pretty spectacular...and creepy ;)
