^^Hard to imagine that The Burj Dubai is over 3 times as tall as The Devon tower will be!!!In 50 years or less there will be 3-4 taller towers in The World!

Was excited to notice Monday that the crane had bumped over the weekend and was way over the OK Tower. Then this morning, driving from Edmond, I was finally able to see a pillar peeking up above the Oklahoma Tower - so the Devon Tower has nearly cleared the other towers in town from every viewpoint (Unless you happen to be sitting right behind the chase tower I guess).

I'm sooo happy for you. I noticed this today. What will be awesome is driving south on BWE at night and seeing the construction lights over the OkTower. They're actually on the 22nd floor so it will be a few weeks before lights will beam over the top of the tower! But I can't wait!!

Agree. This is getting boring. How about some fresh shots of the lower sections of the building for those of us that don't live in OKC.

David... I just took some fresh pictures of the tower today. One is a close up of the interior construction on the first floor.

Overall it looks like the tower is close to 450 feet right now.

Great pics B Mac. One question I have: you stated "You can see the progress of the data center on the left hand side of the picture below." This is a picture from Hudson looking east at the tower and the "Podium" on the left hand side of the screen. Isn't the podium for meeting/conference rooms and gathering spaces? I believe the data center was moved offsite and that is why they lowered the height of the tower from 925 to 850 feet. Please correct me if I am wrong.

B Mac, those are wonderful pictures (not just the current, but all). Would it be OK with you if I'd put a link in the left sidebar of my blog to your blog? Anyway, it's just great.

The Tower's structural engineer confirmed the tower is only going to be 850'. They started out working on the 900+ version, then Devon reworked some things (moving the data center I assume) and asked for it to be lower. Final design was never even finished for 900+ feet. The Architect begged them to keep it that way, but Devon insisted on lowering it. The Architect really wanted his name tagged to the tallest tower in a 500 mile radius apparently hehe.

Other than that, I really only found out a bunch of technical facts and numbers about the tower. Exceptional effort was put into the basement because of the high water table and it had to be completely waterproof. Gave us details on the absolute absurdness of the mat and the HUGE forces on the tower from wind. I believe it has an overturning moment of about 4,300,000 kip-ft.

Concrete used in the first 16 floors of the building utilize 12ksi concrete. This is the first time 12 ksi concrete has been poured in Oklahoma ever. Dolese actually agreed to release their mix design. 10 and 12 ksi concrete are 50% portland cement (rofl crazy), 30% slag, 20% fly ash. The mat concrete, which was 7 ksi, was 50% portland cement and 50% fly ash with TONS of chemical admixtures to get it as workable as it was.

The Tower's period is 6.4 seconds with a total drift of 18". Overall, it's a pretty stiff tower. It had to be because of the curtain wall design. (kind of interesting)

I think that's probably all that is interesting to you guys. The rest was just a lot of info on the columns, beams and walls.

He did mention that the crown was going to be lit up someway, but he didn't know anything about that.

An update on my distant observation spot by Quail Springs Mall. It has passed OK Tower and at night just glows from the lights inside. The crane to the west seems to have gone up, the east crane will need pushed up soon. From my view it looks like the west crane is about the height of the Chase tower. Caught an image just now from the cam of a window pane being installed on the north side, I'll post it below.

"4,300,000 kip-ft" to tip it over. It wouldn't ever snap in half. I have no desire to do the math right now to find out what wind speed that would resist. I don't have the dimensions to the building to even do just a simple estimate. Also, that number is from the wind tunnel test. So it's actually designed to resist more than that.

What is kip-ft?

The unit Kip refers to a 1000 pounds of a force acting on an object. In this case the tower. These Kips (Loads) acting on the tower both vertically (Gravity type loads) and laterally (horizontally). Kip-ft is typically used as a measure of moment on an object. (kind of as an example the force acting on a brick standing on end that results in its tipping over). Hope this helps somewhat.

Maybe I missed it, but have there been any renderings of the auditorium posted? I see that it is now well on its way as well. In the original renderings there is just a bandshell in front of the lower section of the complex. Would be grateful if someone could post images of the auditorium rendering.

Wow! Really beautiful! Thanks Thunder.
This is a truly elegant building and I think it will complement the tower just fine. I used to work for ING here in Amsterdam and we also had a glass wall in our auditorium. The solution there were shades and curtains, but given current technology, I would not be surprised if there was a liquid crystal film that went opaque on que. Very exciting.

It's a shame you can't zoom out anymore. Losing the ground as a reference point will make it difficult to track the progress. But, I know you're doing the best you can with the equipment you have, Pete. It's greatly appreciated. It's a testament to the enormity of this building and even more impressive, to say the least.

I was able to finally see the building in person this past weekend. It's going to be incredible when it's finished.

Tell your friend thanks. And thanks for posting it! I noticed that the floor heights and the segments for the crane are roughly the same height. Looks to me like the operating booth of Crane 1 is sitting at the height of the 39th floor (big smile)!!

Just making note of it, but every time I open up the Skyline Cam page it loads with the camera equal in height to the construction of the tower, but as soon as it plays live, it angles downward... Kinda sucky. What up with that Steve?

That is an awesome view! On another note, did they pour concrete on top of the mechanical structure above the podium buiding? It looks smooth and gray now. I am probably in a minority but I liked the camera view on the lower part because the tower floors are repetitive.
