Why not? At least their building will be energy efficient, and with a nifty and efficient LED lighting system, they'd also be the flashiest tower around.

If they kept going with the original height, every floor would have 16' ceilings, which makes no sense. once the load-bearing (taller) floors are done, they can make all the floors have 10' ceilings which is normal for an office.

All floors are load bearing...as it is a concrete structural system, yes each floor carries the load of the floors above it, or transfers the loads from the floors above it on down to the ground.

As mentioned the larger 20'-0" floors are kind of the "Grand Floors" Most likely areas for clients and visitors, and meetings etc...where an impression is needed. I have not looked at the programming of the spaces to be sure but that is what makes sense. Of course the First floor at 40'-0" is all about first impressions and circulation, after that the floors go on to a more normal Floor to floor height. Higher than many due to raised floor and drop ceilings. This will give the users a standard office feel, with more efficient and flexible cabling and often customized thermal comfort control on a cubicle by cubicle basis, by using underfloor distribution. (note the 20'-0" floors do not appear to be using the under floor distribution-note hanging HVAC ducts)

As for many of the more recent posts...there is little to say.

While I hope The Devon Tower has a great lighting scheme I hope its not over the top,The Duke energy tower in Charlotte goes crazy nuts with its lighting it looks good in Charloote but that kind of light show would not look good in OKC!Thats just my opinion!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8fiyNfMYoI or this crazy light show! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tplx2CIuHfc

AWESOME! Devon need to do something like that each time the Thunder scores! And the rainbow is really funny to do when OKC have one of those pride downtown. LOL

Devon, I hope you are paying attention! We need colors on this tower (look at above links in previous post).

^^No No we dont need anything that outlandish! If devon does have lighting like that then The rest of The DT skyline needs to step it up!

^^No doubt! The rendering in dmoor82's avatar shows that the rest of the DT skyline needs to step it up. We don't need an elaborate lighting system!

It wouldn't be too bad if they only had a light show 1 or 2 times a night. Of course this would increase the odds of drivers getting into accidents on the surrounding interstates and streets.

Nothing wrong with Devon celebrating something. I bet they can do something so fancy during December...beating those boring crosses on the other towers.

Whether one agrees w/ the 'crosses' being displayed or not, I don't think the point to them is that they are "exciting". Are you like 10 or something?

Turnabout is fair play, the East Coast certainly gives me cause to chuckle at times. My point is that the crosses are not there for 'excitement' / not making a case to display/not-display, this would be the last forum I'd have that discussion in ;). LOL

I've reloaded the cam shot 3 times in the last 4 hours and both crane hoists are still in the same place with the cranes in the same position. Is it my luck or have they just not moved any?

I must just be getting lucky (on the cam shot) cause I've now refreshed it 3 times in the last couple of minutes and seen the hoists moving, lol

I think the ones protruding are the normal floors, and the ones below do not stick out in order to accommodate the rotunda.

No, Thunder is referring to the auxillary building north of the Tower. Thunder there are two auxillary buildings, podium, and then a theatre/lecture hall in addition to the tower. Also they are building a meeting space building for the Colcord hotel.

Everyday on my way home from work and I make the curve east from southbound Lake Hefner Parkway to eastbound I-44 (near NW 39th), I get a quick glimpse of the skyline just before it disappears behind the Lowe's on May/I-44. You can see the cranes are as high as The Oklahoma Tower...and each day I wonder if that will be the day the Devon Tower breaks the horizon! It's GOT to be soon!

Kinda funny that you say that cause when I drive eastbound on 39th and go northbound on Hefner Parkway, there's a glimpse of the site right there before you merge left to go north that you can see the cranes and eventually the tower before it disappears behind that motel on the SE corner of the interchange.

Does anyone know if those steel/iron holding the glass panes is rust resistant? The other day I noticed how horrible the rust is on the Chase tower. Hope Devon pay extra to keep it neat. Mom's toolbox in back of her truck still have no rust after many years despite how many people toolbox's is rusted.

I don't understand why there is so much confusion about what floor they are working on. Floor nine is just being completed and they have begun to lay the planks of the tenth floor on the east side. The lobby is not two floors, even though it is the height of two, it is not!! The lobby is one large floor, and if there was a two tier lobby, then it would be floor 1R and 1D, or whatever, but still considered one floor. I am not try to be rude, seriously, i just get confused when a floor number is brought up and it is the wrong one that i am looking at. but i would like to say, that this is my favorite website for the time and i love all the input and work that people do, on this site, to get us closer to the building. I do appreciate it.

Okay, well while you guys are pointlessly bickering over Thunder's remarks, something is wrong over at the tower. A SECTION HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE TENTH FLOOR, AS WELL AS TWO SUPPORT COLUMNS. AT 11:40 THIS MORNING, THE CAMERA SHOWED A TON OF PEOPLE AT THAT SECTION.

Can someone find out what is happening?

I've been wondering so myself. Not a lot of workers around now, that I can tell of, but Crane 2 looks like it's working around this particular area. Whatever the case may be, better that they caught it now instead of something going wrong later!

Just confirms my thoughts that they should have brought in a first rate Construction Company, instead of second rate local Flintco. Remember the support pier in the substructure that had to be jackhammered out, the crane that fell over......

Please bear in mind that there are two contractors on the Devon site - Holder-Flintco. There is also a form sub contractor, as you might recall. We have no idea what the problem is and until we KNOW what it is I think we ought not make judgments concerning anyone. I do think we need to remember how many local jobs this local contractor provides. I, for one, don't want this thread to become a negative back and forth that other threads have turned into. Please not on this thread.

What a stupid comment!! You don't think OKC should support local businesses?? It's a 2-3 year project with thousands of workers and 4-5 different jobs going on at the same time, 24 hours a day... Of course there's going to be mistakes! It's construction!! The important thing is they caught the mistake while they were putting up forms for the 11th floor instead of the 21st floor.

Its more like 3rd rate or worse. Remember the drunken boss fired one of the nation's top crane operator? Yup, we had someone on the job recently being wrongfully fired. And Flintco still employs the drunken boss drinkin' on the job nonstop. As long it saves Devon money from paying for 1st rate construction crew.
