It was an amazing scene down there yesterday...so much activity and NOISE! You don't really get a sense of the scope of the project until you stand on the top of the east garage and look down. I was amazed and highly recommend a trip downtown to see it for yourself.

You've got that right!

The noise is becoming less charming as I listen to it for 10 hours a day.
Guess I need to invest in some Bose headphones.

The upside - I can watch all the activity as I listen to conference calls or work at my desk. It changes so much each day!

I took this the other day at the airport - you can see the crane, I think someone asked what the crane looked like against the skyline, maybe this'll help.

Whats up w/ that black glassless panel on The Oklahoma Tower?I know it's been like that for years!anyways great pix OKCdrummer!!! I don't know for sure but it could be dampers. The reason I say this is because if you look at Chase Tower on the 22nd floor E. and W. side of building are louvers (dampers). These dampers allow fresh air to enter the building and are also used to cool the building during milder temps. 40 to 50 degrees O.S.A.

Not necessarily. You can get a "compressed" look from using a high-powered zoom lens, which I'm guessing he owns from the look of some of the construction site photos. If if it was photoshopped, hats off. Well done.

Maybe SkyWest can clear up how it was done?

What is that purple stuff? and what is the square full of rebar for.

Since I did not see the installation to know if it was a sheet good product or if it was a fluid applied (Spray on) product I am only left to hazard a guess. It is common to see them install a drainage board that is applied in like 4X8 Sheets to the retaining wall to act as both waterproofing and a path to a foundation perimeter drain. but that is usually more for a occupied floor that is below grade. With this being a pier cap I am guessing that this would be a fluid applied waterproofing membrane that the pier cap will be poured against. This means that we are about to see the rest of the pit filled up with people tying steel.

Not ready to guess on the reinforced square area...could be too many things at this point, from recessed elevator pit for a freight elevator, and too many other possibilities and reasons for me to doubt my first guess so we'll just have to wait and see more on what they do there.

metro
03-01-2010, 09:29 AM
Could the square be for utilities? I'm wondering how the utilities come up through the foundation and my guess was if elevator shaft, there would have been more than them, but the utilities have to come through somewhere. As for the purple stuff, I too thought it was spray on, however if you look at the cam right now, you can see some of it flapping in the wind on the SW side, so it must be a membrane type sheet.

Yeah a path for utilities did cross my mind and is another possibility, however with a building of this size it usually requires a large vault room for all the transformers. The power then is run in through a chase into the building into the main electrical distribution room is. Water and sewer are possibilities whowever I would still be surprized to see such a large area for that. It will be fun to see how things progress and what it is actually to be used for.

I think the flapping that you are seeing is a clear visqueen sheet that is there to protect the material from rain or moisture until it cures/dries. I am guessing a sprayed on application.

twade
03-01-2010, 10:16 AM
I just got back from the site. The purple material is a foam board-type of material. As they finish each section, they are covering the foam board with a clear plastic tarp.

As for the vault: I don't know what it is. However, on the north side of the site they dug a large hole. There are now plenty of metal boxes and tubes coming from where that hole once was. I would guess that is where most of the utilities might be based.

There were two concrete pumping rigs on site this morning. The NW side of the pit is now rebar'd. I would guess they will be pouring the concrete into the pit today- it could also be for the piers though (still drilling down there).

You realize it's photoshopped don't you?

Only photoshop I did was cropping and resizing to make it uploadable to photobucket.

For your info, this was shot with a Canon EOS 400D + Canon EF 70-200 f/4L USM lens. My exact settings in camera were: f/7.1, 1/500 sec, Manual Exposure, Partial Metering, at 200 mm. DoF (Depth of Field) is very narrow at 200mm providing a low contrast between the foreground, subject, and background. Everyone is pushed towards the middle of the 3-D cross section of the image, if one existed. I have other shots from the same location where I can see the KOMA towers in Moore like they are a mile or so from the airport. I have pictures where the approach lighting system to the runway (over 1 mile away) looks less than a block away. Think next time and study up before you accuse me of something that is not true and is highly looked down upon in the business.

In case you are unaware, telephoto effect occurs on this lens (as well as all other lenses). Provide some proof that this is photoshopped.

Here is a link to the FULL series. http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/5637/proofy.jpg What proof do you have of photoshop/image forgery? What is your expertise in this field?

I'll think next time about driving across town and getting pictures for your enjoyment if I am to be accused of faking my own photos.

Not to go off line, but to clarify - Urban Renewal had nothing to do with the vacant parcels seen in the aerial. That is the result of private owners who, most likely, didn't take care of the property and it rotted and became dilapidated, requiring it being removed.

Certainly, with 20/20 hindsight Urban Renewal went too far, and adopted a faulty plan of total demolition instead surgical. But they aren't the blame for every vacant parcel of land in and near downtown.

heh - You keep showing you're not capable of understanding the context of one's comment or post. I said - UR had nothing to do with vacant area's of land shown in the provided aerial a couple of posts above, and not the CBD core. The point is they are responsible for one vacant parcel shown in that photo. One. Out of dozens.

Well as I am not there to hear the exact sounds you are refferring to, take my thoughts with a grain of salt. Often on a complex job site such as this there are saftey requirements that must be inforced. It is common for many vehicles to honk thier horns to alert other vehicles that they are passing behind.

Of course most of the trucks and equipment have back up alarms that will beep or even be constant while engaged in reverse.

The cranes often have a squeal associated with them when they are lifting and moving around.

Beyond this it could be anything...don't know if this helps but it is what it is, and you get what you pay for! :LolLolLol
