I'm relatively unfamiliar with construction practices, so can anyone tell me why large projects such as this are often worked on 24 hrs a day? Is it simply a timeline issue? Because I can't see how it would be any cheaper that way. . .

There are some costs that are measured in days/weeks/months that will help.

For instance, a demo rig might be leased by the day. Obviously, it's better to take 12 days to demo than 24 at that point.

Will take camera tomorrow - had too many things to carry today.

The sidewalk on south (Gardens) side of Sheridan is open all the way now - no more detours through mud or grass. Wish there was more light, but at least the walk from Hudson is a bit shorter.

Has anyone who works within earshot noticed a strange humming buzz? I kept thinking there was some sort of alarm going off on my computer until I put my ear against window and heard it louder. I don't know how to describe it other than almost a vibration along with a hum.
Not enough of either one to be pleasurable or irritating - just noticable. :ohno:

I have pictures I was trying to insert as attachments but evidently have a "quota" I'm exceeding.
Can someone please tell me how I can get these inserted as images? Or do I need to reduce? All of the images are in the range of a MB each.
TIA, LG

Anyone know the timeline for pouring each floor? I know it was said that if it stays on schedule, the tower structure will be about finished the end of next year (exterior). I also know Trump Tower in Chicago their goal was 1 floor per day. Didn't know how Devon compared to Trump Tower in terms of floor pouring, etc. I'm assuming at 50 floors that's about one every 3-4 days?

Funny? I don't get it.............

Definition-A crawler is a crane mounted on an undercarriage with a set of tracks (also called crawlers) that provide stability and mobility. Crawler cranes range in lifting capacity from about 40 US tons to 3500 US tons.
Crawler cranes have both advantages and disadvantages depending on their use. Their main advantage is that they can move around on site and perform each lift with little set-up, since the crane is stable on its tracks with no outriggers. In addition, a crawler crane is capable of traveling with a load. The main disadvantage is that they are very heavy, and cannot easily be moved from one job site to another without significant expense. Typically a large crawler must be disassembled and moved by trucks, rail cars or ships to its next location.

That is not an existing column nor new, it is a piece of the drilling equipment they use to drill the holes, throughout the drilling process they have been drilling them into the dirt temporarily so it is easier to attach them later.

Caisson, that is the stupid word! I have been trying to figure that out all day... That is exactly what it is. They are using it to line the holes as they drill them.

Guys, that is a concrete form. They are drilling piers to bedrock, and using that form as a casing to pour mud. you can see rebar sticking out of the top of it. Not a bit of harm done in jokingly spraypainting it to mess with a co-worker. Why does everthing have to turn into a controversy?

I don't know much about construction on large buildings, but it seems like they will need to dig down quite a ways. In that frame of mind, I think those piers they are placing are more for shoring up the ground around the road and parking garage in anticipation of the "big dig".

I can't wait to see how wrong I am. :LolLolLol
