Ha! I firmly believe Devon Tower will crush any and all competition. I also believe that dozens of new towers will sprout in downtown OKC, and that the Thunder will win 10 straight championships. And I'll keep on believing these things until proven wrong!

OK Jim Traber, lol.

I think the Devon Tower is stunning but that picture doesn't capture it as well. It completely missed the atrium.

They purposely set us up to fail so Praedura wouldn't get his way...smh.

Wow! What a great video. No, I had not seen it before. Thanks for posting the link Will.

It was great to hear Jon Pickard talk about the building. In fact, he practically gushes over it. Clearly, this project meant a lot to him.

We were all quite excited about the new Chamber of Commerce video that came out a few weeks ago, as it was a great showcase for the city. But honestly, this video might even be better as a way to introduce folks not familiar with OKC to what is going on here (if you could get them to view a full 28 minute video).

Really superb. I might grab some stills from this as there are a bunch of awesome shots in this video.

I'm guessing those black rectangles above the water are sensors to stop people from hopping over? I've been in the tower and took a personal tour, my uncle works there haha... It is beautiful. Amazing how many different elevators they have.

I rather like this hand drawn sketch that someone at Daydream Studios (http://daydreamstudios.net) conjured up:

http://daydreamstudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/IMG_20120711_094141.jpg

It's pretty simple, but I think that's what makes it interesting -- the sheer stark minimalism.

A mere triangle at the top of a tall rectangle is enough to evoke the Devon Tower, and with it, the whole (new age) OKC skyline.

I'm not sure how all those shot were taken. But just to take a guess... the local media certainly did a lot of coverage of the Tower as it was going up, so Jack Frank could have obtained some of that footage. Then, likely, he probably was allowed by Devon to tour the building and take internal shots of offices, meeting places, etc. and conduct some interviews while making the documentary. Also, it seems likely that Devon itself probably had some internal staff that documented the building and fill out of the tower, and Mr. Frank may have gotten permission to use some of that video in his film as well.

Underfloor hvac is pretty common in this kind of structure where it uses the underfloor as a plenum or as a place for all mechanicals. Putting things in the ceiling has many drawbacks. This has been common in a lot of places for some time, but we haven't had this kind of new construction here before so it isn't common here.

Going off the time-lapse video, was it sectioned off coloring?

I have always wanted them to be able to "pulse" the different colors up from the ground instead of simply fading in and out. Nice to see they actually are taking note of the lights - now if they could get that really reliable crane on top going....

Here's a local copy I made of one of the news9 SkyCam shots from last night:

http://dl.dropbox.com/s/sp3ip6sxrdjckgk/Sandridge_00001.jpg

Not a very high quality pic, but at least you can see some of the coloration they were fooling around with.

Perhaps they'll have some good shots of the Devon Tower in tonight's Thunder game coverage. If so, someone could grab some snazzy screenshots from that.

Praedura
02-14-2013, 01:29 PM
They had rainbows, then some kind of pulsating effect where it made the whole strip of lights look like it was some kind of hologram -- really neat to see. They also played around with gradients and then big up and down moves like the lights were falling from the top or shooting from the bottom.

After last night, I'm once again thoroughly excited about the tower. If they are willing to take the time, it looks like they will have the capabilities to put on quite the light show for OKC.

I only saw a couple individual sections that were still out. Looks like the vast majority of them have been repaired.

Sounds awesome. Hopefully the display isn't so mesmerizing that we see an uptick in nighttime traffic accidents as drivers look up to see the show!

My uncle who works at Devon was moved to another building downtown because they are "remodeling" parts of the building because they are running out of room and trying to make the building make the most efficient use of space possible. Makes me wish the would've just built a super-tall!!!! We, at least this means they might build another tower soon. 2-5 years sound reasonable?

If they're already running out of room again then I'd speculate that the designs are in the works now. Think about how long planning took before an official announcement was made for the current tower. If it's going to be closer to two years then the dream is already in the works...has to be.
