It was light up in blue all night last night. I actually think the blue should be the default. The faded blue crown looked like a natural gas flame from a distance. Looked very good.

So who or what entity in OKC has the deep pockets to buy and renovate this beautiful building? I think an out-of-state owner just would not care about this building the way a local person would.

Last night I was down at the arena picking up some tickets and noticed they have scaffolding attached to Devon on the east side where the windows were damaged. It appears they are replacing those that have been missing since the Crane broke them.

I find your lack of updated information to be embarrassing. The south facing LEDs were fixed this week and the rest are being fixed this week. The random windows were damaged in a storm and are being repaired. You build a 50 story tower in the same timeline and see if everything is perfect before the building is fully opened.

While it should be embarrassing to the sub-contractor, it is not like Devon was allocating their best and brightest employees to the project.

Hello, nice to meet you too. Yea the storm damaged those windows in February 2012. You are totally right, 8 months to repair storm damage on a $750M project is far too short of a time-frame. Silly me.

Haha, yea getting the LEDs *mostly* fixed this week was definitely beating the "before embarrassed" clock. Really people? Someone builds the nicest tower downtown and everyone has to ride the Devon sack for it? Look I am all for the tower and what Devon brings to OKC by establishing themselves. But whoever was in charge of the LED system as the tower was being built is hopefully fired by now. The tower was officially 'opened' in March 2012. These types of little details are indeed embarrassing. Just turn the LEDs off until they all work correctly. Seeing broken lines up and down this beautiful structure is an eye sore at night. Perhaps it is the OCD coming out. But then adding the tarp over the broken windows that we all get to see during the day.... laughable.

Yea, I keep mentioning storm damage, because it is definitely not just broken glass we are talking about. Because the relative size of those tarps clearly indicate some substantial damage.

Just to reiterate - I am not knocking Devon as if it is them working on these things, just who the people they hired to 'repair' the damage and 'build' the LED lighting. Clearly they got some real boneheads.

Say an LED strip is not working...Just what exactly do you think is the process to get that fixed? Flip a switch? Replace a bulb? Reprogram the computer?

Don't you think that some issues may just be extremely, extremely complex situations that are going to take months to figure out? What if there is a single wire that is shorted/broken causing the malfunction on an LED fin? Do you assume that it's easy to find that one wire (between floors) and just replace it?

If you're going to sarcastically speak to me in simplicities, I will return the favor. Ummm, test the lights as they're put in? Avoid having to troubleshoot a tube on the side of a 800 ft glass wall?

Nobody on here knows how the system actually works, all I know is it doesn't. - and that is embarrassing.

Dude, you're a tool. This kind of thing happens with every new building. Every single one. Some of them take years to resolve. Devon has been hauling ass to finish this tower, still doing a lot of work on the inside of the building. A strip of malfunctioning LEDs and a section of missing windows is not important. Nobody is embarrassed by this because nobody cares. Nobody important anyway, just you, an anonymous internet poster.

Just the facts
10-19-2012, 06:46 AM
If someone is embrassed by some malfunctioning lights on a office building, said person may be a little too emotionally attached to the office building. Maybe a different word is in order - like disappointed, frustrated, or dissatisfied.

They were testing them as they put them in, we watched them for about a year testing each individual section at a time.

First of all, everyone on this thread needs to take a deep breath and start being more respectful to each other.

Secondly, I know quite a bit about the LED system and I can tell you that all the fixtures are embedded in mesh "fins" that were attached to the window panels. The ones that are completely out were damaged during installation, as they are very delicate and each window panel had to be hauled high into the building then snapped into place.

They could only full test each floor after all the windows were installed and wired.

The only way to fix the panels that were completely out was to use the building maintenance unit (BMU), which is the large crane on top of the tower that is also used for window washing. This was largely unavailable until about a month or two ago at which time they started to fully test all the fixtures and repair as they could. Obviously, getting the building finished and operational for the Devon employees has been priority #1; outdoor lighting and other cosmetic issues were left to the last.

Same with the windows damaged when the east crane was being removed. They had to order new windows then use the BMU to replace them.

The lighting company is working very hard to repair all the LED's and get everything properly programmed. Should be done very soon.

I imagine there is a control box for each floor(maybe several) that are networked together. Its more than just wiring up a light with power, there are also data cables and programming to worry about.

Edit: And a control box is basically a computer.

Yes, so after all the windows were installed, there was still quite a bit of work to do before the LED lighting on any floor could even be turned on.

Remember early in construction, we'd see them testing a few floors at a time, but only about a month after all the windows had been in place.

That big swath revealed from this angle is particularly jarring and no matter how excited I get about OKC, when I go back and pass through there it still feels like some sort of DMZ.

It's changing but I'd sure like to see a big project of some sort go in there to plug at least part of the hole.

Straying even further off topic, but imagine what might happen if two or three high quality, high volume developers could be enticed to start rebuilding real neighborhoods and commercial areas in these wasted spaces... I wonder how quickly we might see areas like this fill in. I think the demand is there or coming very soon.

I have 2 questions for anyone really and excuse me if I didn't read far enough back on this post because perhaps the answer to my question has already been answered.

1.) Does anyone know if Devon is going to keep the lights on the tower constantly changing or stick with one color eventually? I'd rather it stay one color personally but happy either way.

2.) I hear rumors of another tower coming soon via newsok.com and Steve Lackmeyer. Does anyone know anything about this as well?

I don't think any of us know for sure. But I would guess that on a typical night, they will only display one color. Whether they change that color/arrangement from night to night, we'll see.

Would be awesome if the could have the "OKC Thunder" Logo on the crown during game nights.
