The first week they said they moved in 80 people, and they would do a single move every weekend. I'd probably say by now they have a couple hundred in the building.

I guess I missed it, but does anyone know how many employees are in the building now? And when do they expect to have everyone in?

I would assume they're moving in quickly considering they're already changing the sign on the old building.

I think some time in July everyone will be moved.

Are they ever going to fill in those gaps on the tower? it looks like they might be air vents or something

no, not air vents, that is where the cranes were attached to the tower, but I have no idea whats taking them so long in adding the rest of the windows, maybe they had to put another order in and they are just waiting on them to be delivered, that is my best guess.

Looks like the rotunda has a broken glass on the 2nd level in one of Williams pictures. Looks like safety glass that crazed but is still in place.

Yes, I was in the building a couple of days ago, and I noticed the broken glass. I'd be willing to bet there will be more, before they get everyone moved in.

Isn't there an option to take the elevator (or stairs) down to an underground basement/concourse, under Devon Tower? I remember some of the earlier pics of construction showing them working below street level?

I wonder what's down there? I wonder if anyone will take any pics? I wonder if it has been connected to the other tunnels under the city?

Pete
03-29-2012, 10:39 AM
It's just a small basement under the tower that is for mechanical stuff.

The tower will be connected to the rest of downtown through a skywalk that runs through the City Center East garage and then connects with an existing skywalk that leads into Oklahoma Tower.

Yes, they'll be able to park there as well as the people using the banquet facilities.

But they told me there may be an extra charge.

How can I make reservations at Vast?

betts
03-30-2012, 08:11 AM
I don't think Vast is going to be open until later in the fall. I bet they don't want to bother with holding reservations that long. If you're looking to get married or have a reception up there, however, I would be quick about it, as it sounds like they're already booking up. That is going to be a popular place for upscale, urban weddings, I'm guessing.

I know this is an off topic question, but does anyone know if oklahoma city's metro population is more populated south of the river or north of the river?

dougsevert
03-30-2012, 10:27 AM
The information could be wrong, but the receptionist at the desk in the rotunda said that for groups, Vast is booked up for two years. She even made a joke about not be able to have her own wedding reception up there, but since she didn't have any proposals she wasn't going to worry about it. I suggested that she book something now and it would give her plenty of time to find someone.

Pete
03-30-2012, 10:41 AM
The banquet facility is most definitely not booked up for two years because I have been working with them for an event next summer.

BTW, John Williams (formerly of the Skirvin) and his group are managing the banquet space it's all pretty darn expensive. You have to use their catering and also pay a 22% gratuity. For the largest room (capacity 250) on the 50th floor, it works out to be about $110 minimum per person. I would guess that number would be higher for the smaller rooms.

Probably not bad for a nice wedding reception but for any other sort of dinner, it's almost unworkable. Sadly, I don't think I can make it work for my purposes.

Just the facts

If you think the auditorium resembles the Seattle Central Library what do you think about the tower itself, as it resembles any one of 500 recently constructed buildings.

Took this shot yesterday just because it looked so cool with the clouds and things being green again. Unfortunately, I don't have a nice DSLR so I can't reproduce what it really looked like. So this is just my Canon S90 zoomed as far as it can go.

This is from SH-9 and Portland in Southern Newcastle. Right at 20 miles from Devon Tower.
