He said he dialed up the blues..........

Those wooden crates you see on the roof must contain all the remaining panels to be installed on the backside of the crown.

Also, you can see the elevated catwalk that leads to observation decks on each of the three gaps between the triangle structures.

Awesome Cooper!

That must have been taken yesterday (Tuesday)?

Have more you can share??

I was going to fly for another two hours and had planed to throw the fast primes on for some night skyline shots but we ran into this massive low cloud bank that was quickly approaching the city. This shot was taken at 2000 feet just west of El Reno. Going back up later this week to try again.

I mean, last time Cooper posted a picture, he said that he really didn't alter the picture that much, and I tend to want to believe him.

guys it was pretty hazy yesterday. Made for some dull shots with boring color. I upped the contrast and played with the vibrance and saturation scales quite a bit on these to make them stand out. That being said I didn't alter the actual colors, just increased them... I left the crane in all the shots.

..and most professional photographers, including myself shoot, with very neutral settings in their cameras. 99.999999% of all professional photos and video you see have been tweaked.

Thanks so very much Cooper! Awesome work as always.

You can see the west crane is now completely gone and they have made great progress on all the hardscape in the park.

I imagine they are going to work very hard at getting the remaining panels set on the back of the crown then try to get the east crane down very soon.

Great shots Cooper! Stuff like this needs to go viral to the "ignorant masses" in regards to our city. All the old dated photos you see used to represent us needs to be replaced with this. I should get my 7D later this week and I'm going to do my best with it. I'm about 6-7 years rusty and it'll take a while to get used to it again. If you need an extra guy to get video, give me a ring!

OKC visitor...

I went to OKC last week as well. This building is absolutely beautiful. The area is also looking up although finding parking was an awful experience and the downtown area is surrounded by pretty ugly neighborhoods and highways like crazy. The transportation system seems chaotic and messy as well. I hope this building is just one step in OKC's urban transformation because one building doesn't make a city "modern" or "great". OKC has great potential but this involves making downtown more pedestrian friendly, prettier, and buzzing. The place was dead around Devon and you wouldn't know the area had people if every parking spot wasn't taken. I also think OKC should spruce up its highways and get rid of all the factories near downtown. I think Tulsa should do the same. People don't like living next to 1900s run-down factories. That's true everywhere in America.

Oh GAWD the Smell!

Therein lies the root problem!! IF OKC wants to attract tourists and new residents, then the city needs to LISTEN to them when they offer constructive criticism.

I don't see anything bad from the visitor other than a realistic opinion about the city. In all honesty, I also visited the city over the weekend and had similar opinions but I am a bit more forgiving - being an OKC expat. It is like this: when I arrived into the city from the airport and I drove and saw downtown from afar, I was like WOW - something is happening in this city. There's even traffic to match and people moving and going; UNTIL you get to downtown. The drive into the city was impressive as others have stated, with the pretty new girl showing her beauty. But as you get closer and closer, then off the freeway things die out dramatically and aside from the CBD most of downtown is a dump. Hate to say it, but it is true.

Now, we know there are improvements in sight; but this is something city leaders need to hear and recognize - and possibly 'hide' or do something with those blighted areas to give visitors a better opinion. Something as simple as a construction fence surrounding areas would make a HUGE difference, particularly if the fence has pictures of what is going to be built. ....

Also, I have made this comment time and time again - but OKC is WAY TOO DARK!!!!!! Why is almost every city and freeway light OFF???

Lighting gives a city buzz even if people aren't really out and about. Just look at what the video screen has done to the stadium district, it looks buzzing even though nobody is often there. Imagine if streetlights were on and/or better placed, it would be hard to ignore the bright lights of the big city if they were ON. Perhaps OKC needs to be on the forefront and install energy efficient lighting and turn them on - plus it would probably get rid of a significant portion of crime that the city is notorious for.

Food for thought, from outside prospectives.

At 1.8 million square feet, would this make Devon Energy Center the biggest, or one of the biggest, office complexes in the state? How many square feet does the Chesapeake Campus have?

It would be one of the biggest in Texas for that matter..check out square footage for Houston and I think their biggest is 1.7 million.

Pete
02-16-2012, 08:20 AM
By my estimate, CHK will have about 2 million square feet on their campus once the buildings they have under construction are finished; plus they have a bunch more planned.

And this does not count about 1 million square feet they own around town that isn't on their campus.

Yep, you can see it coming down on the webcam.

I guess they can continue setting the panels on the back of the crown without it.

Sure wish someone could get down there and take some photos of the ground level activity near the south entrance and the park. I'm sure they've made a lot of progress, especially with the west crane down.

I bet they are working hard to finish the lobby and the reflecting pool that will encircle the building.

After the crane finally comes down, the Devon Tower construction cam should retire, really nothing else to see, besides looking at a building.

Pete

We'll eventually redeploy the webcam, hopefully to observe another big construction project.

But there will still be plenty to see at Devon, such as the LED lighting. We can also point it downward to observe the activity in the rotunda, garden wing and park.

After following this project for 4 years, I think its time to put Devon Tower behind us and move on, and taking down the construction cam, and making the thread "unsticky" will symbolize we are ready to move on, and help us gain some closure with this project, and look forward to new things in the future.

Devon Tower construction won't be completely finished for another 9 months or so and is the biggest building project in the history of the state.

There is still tons of interest and much, much more to come. Especially considering the place hasn't even partially opened and we don't have any photos of the lobby, garden wing, park, auditorium, rotunda, water features, restaurant and club, retail and other restaurants, landscaping, rooftop observation deck, Colcord connection, pedestrian connections, etc., etc., etc.

This project is only going to be come more interesting in the near future. We won't be removing the sticky for some time and I hope we'll soon be adding more.

You won't be disappointed in the footage today. I don't know if I'll have it done tonight though. A lot of stuff going on. They're paving the new Sheridan Ave. Starting at the Colcord and working towards the tower. They've got (aluminum?) cladding on three or four pillars. Just a lot of activity on every inch of the work site.

Definitely no point in arguing this because I don't think objectivity exists. I like to use words like "fair" in place of objectivity because you can never separate yourself from your assumptions and biases. Most of them are unconcsious or unrealized. I just stopped by Devon and saw them bring one of the crane pieces to the ground very interesting. I also saw them "testing" the LEDs. The LEDS were on in little sections on different parts of the building. The lights weren't moving though. They were just a consistent green and yellow the whole time. Can't wait to see what they can do with it.

I was really impressed with the north entrance between the parking garages. Looks great with the new trees, lights (like Myriad), and the entrance.
