I was going thru your pics, and what is and where is the underground? Is that a walkway like the ones above ground, but obviously underground?

Hey Holmes, it's the reason why we have no pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks in OKC!

It may be in the top ten but it is not the entire issue.

One neat thing I noticed is that when you look directly at one of the lights (head on), they appear to disappear. I imagine that the building will have a very cylindrical look with the lights. Make sense?

Huh?

Building occupancy rates, percentage of people living downtown, retail in CBD, number of restaurants/entertainment in CBD, street design, having an ineffective public transit system, and how close the core was to being dead fifteen years ago. While everything mentioned is improving at various rates they all have an impact on walkability, people being downtown and having a place to go in walking distance. I doubt the underground could facilitate Bricktown's current traffic peaks.

OKCisOK4me
12-31-2011, 03:47 PM
I wasnt referring to the infrastructure of walkability or anything like that. I was just talking about how everyone uses the Underground. Imagine how, if and when, streetcars will change all that.

Just the facts

Are there any "traffic counts" in the underground? I wonder how many people are using it ever day vs how many are on the sidewalk.

I suspect that could vary greatly depending on the weather conditions.

When I worked in CityPlace (1993) I parked in the Santa Fe garage and never used the Conncourse, in fact the only time that I ever did go down there was to eat at Ricoletto's and I walked on the street to Leadership to go down there.

Does anyone know if Devon will shoot off fireworks after completion on grand opening day for the ribbon cutting party? Do they have the space on the roof for that?

No, they are going to revert to an old construction tradition of firing cannons at the top of the building upon completion. Like our forefathers did when they built a fort, to show off their strength and prowess.

It will be strange seeing the tower without the cranes. I think of them as training wheels will be weird standing by itself!

I drove by on Hudson (is that the one leading up to the building?) or I got redirected to Walker? I dunno, I drove by the auditorium and the gardens.

Thanks a million Will! Man, ground level is coming along fast, especially the park. Those cranes have to start coming down soon I would think.

Love the detail of the bright red staircase through the clear glass of the auditorium. I bet this will look super sharp at night.

And the second perspective really shows all the major elements of the complex in harmony.

This will only get better as we near completion and more and more of the details become evident.

It's clear they've put a lot of time, effort and money into the smaller things. Really looking forward to seeing the inside of the rotunda, the first couple of floors of the garden wing, the tower-top restaurant, the park, the auditorium and all the improvements in and around the Colcord.

Yes. I took those particular pictures on Saturday (1/7).

For those interested, I try to take somewhat regular (not as much lately due crown-slowness) pics from the same perspective, which I post here: http://goo.gl/4GjI

So I'm doing video along Film Row for the RetroMetroOKC meeting. Minding my own business. I have my camera and tripod. I wasn't even going to do video at all because it's cloudy and cold. I'm across Joey's in front of the old Paramount Studios building. I hear this car pull up along side me in the street. I was going to ignore them but I turn my head and it's a black suburban and two guys in it. The passenger side guy says, "I'm CIA and I 've noticed you've been taking a lot of pictures and video around here and of Devon. I need to ask you what you're doing." I told him I'm doing video of Film Row for a historical group meeting across the street and that I've done video of Devon since it was five stories tall. That's all the two Jack Bauer wannabes said, then drove West and turned North on Shartel. If random people claiming to be whatever will stop and ask questions even on "Film Row", I guess you can't go anywhere without being bothered in this town. Off topic but still...

I would doubt CIA personnel would come up and say..."I'm CIA"...especially since they only do work outside the USA and are forbidden by law to do anything within the country with US citizens. Still, one has to wonder what kind of people would want to pretend this way. The black Suburban is a pitiful prop, I think.

Real persons wanting to surveil you would never identify themselves and would drive a white Nissan Altima.
