I sat there laughing at how crooked the tower is. Then I was reading and laughed more that fireworks were hidden behind the beast. :-O

Ha, thanks. Oklahoma or Europe, that's a toughie.. but after 6-7-howevermany months, I'm starving, tired of cheap kebabs, and ready to come home.

By the way, you don't shop at Wal-mart, do you? At least the nice thing about overpriced European places is that the money is almost totally reinvested in the community. And China is some distant entity you only hear about because of how the U.S. has gotten the entire world financially tangled up with Beijing.

If you love it so much, move there. Instead of constantly bringing your "better-than-thou" attitude to this forum. The forum was nice and quiet while you were absent. I think we made a lot of progress without your divine leadership.

That's great that you paid $10-20 per meal. That's awesome. You can pay $10-20 per meal here if you want, also. Just go to the right store. But you won't do that, because we have cheaper options, that I know you will eat, and will not share your experience with this forum. Because only the poor lower and middle class beggars eat from there. Not the upper class you think you are in.

Spartan, ignore the previous post. We missed your perspective on this site. Welcome back.

I think the myopic view of many in this city who have little outside references from Europe, Asia or anywhere else limits the progress we can make here. There are many who are unaware of the accumulated experiences of the rest of the world and how that exposure to it can help us. I think it is great you sacrificed to go learn what is really happening in the world instead of assuming it can all be experienced by reading USA Today or watching Fox news. I hope your experiences help you develop your own views independent of other rigid dogma. Good for you.

Rover, don't get me wrong. It's great that he is experiencing diverse cultures and how people in other countries act, work, spend, etc. That's all great stuff. I do however don't like how he presents it. His tone (at least how it is read) comes off as he is "better than thou" because of this.

The perspective is nice, the presentation isn't good.

Hopefully, the more someone experiences and they see that there are many ways to excel, they also find humility. I personally love Spartan's passion and confidence (even though our ideas clash from time to time). Perspective only really comes when you have something to compare. I think he will be a great asset to whomever he works for. But I do think he will become more tolerant of differing ideas. In the meantime, you must admit that he challenges everyone to bring their "A" game here.

Gosh, now I sound like my Granddad. LOL

Hey skywest, sorry you're in a bad mood. I was complaining about how broke meals have made me because someone mentioned that Golden Corral is $5 on a certain night, I think. That is amazing. Gotta love the cheap, and the stars and stripes. We may be in debt up to our eyeballs, but at least we eat like kings for cheap!

Thanks Kilgore, and Rover. Well I will try to sound less "holier than thou" but I also hope it wasn't too nice and quiet on here without me.

I don't get that at all. I think you're just extra-defensive about anything remotely critical of the way we do things here. He certainly doesn't talk down to anyone on this thread. In fact, he doesn't even call anyone out.

Relax.

There are many things we can learn from the way other countries do things; that doesn't make them better than us. And there are certainly things other countries can learn from us.

I'm glad you are back Spartan. It is good to have people on here that have a clue what they are talking about instead of random nonsense.

I hope they have a variety of food places. Downtown really needs some more Asian restaurants..... a good pho, Korean, or Indian restaurant would be great. There are too many gyro, sandwich, and Mexican places.

As far as retail goes, a good office supply/computer store would be great as well as a few boutique stores for the ladies.

FNC had a fairly big office supply store until recently. I don't know where it went.

The current landlord asked for something like triple the rent and they left. This was an annoying discovery for me as I ended up having to drive to Midwest City to buy some supplies for a trial notebook at the last moment.

The landlords of FNC are intentionally sabotaging that building. Perhaps they're trying to drive down its value as much as possible. Not sure why.

Yeah, usually a good indicator of how varied downtown food offerings is how many restaurants that I don't like. The only problem is those types of joints usually cater just to the downtown workers.

I would think an office supply store would be the obvious starting place for retail in the Devon complex, but it will be interesting to see if they're thinking practical or prestige.

I've said this before but it's a strange feeling to see some of these photos and not instantly recognize your own hometown!

It also illustrates how incredibly long it's been since we've seen any significant change in our skyline.

The entrance to the building facing south where the Rotunda is has most the glass installed. It's the same kind used on the Rotunda itself. It's the structure the curves in front of it.

If you are refering to the metal strips laying across the man-lift, they are a component of the glazing system being installed, not LEDs.

Anyone noticing how long this next level is taking on the tower? Isn't the 50th floor done and they are now working on putting up the 50th ceiling? Is the first 20ft floor the 47th, the one that is right below the bottom of the V beams?

Yes, it is taking a long time, but they are still working on the 50th level AND yes, you are correct in regards to the 47th floor.

Pete
07-20-2011, 04:56 PM
Much more complex at the top in terms of angles and such. They certainly can no longer use the standard forms utilized for most the other floors.

Plus with the taper and all the other added complexities, I'm sure the majority of the glass panels have to be customized.

Still, I'd expect the building to top out next month, which has been the projection all along.

holm1231
07-20-2011, 05:00 PM
Yes, it is taking a long time, but they are still working on the 50th level AND yes, you are correct in regards to the 47th floor.

I was just wanting to make sure that they are on the 50th floor, cause of the elapsed time and I don't see the concrete boom from those pictures, I was curious that they are now using steel for the 50th floor, instead of concrete. On a second note, I can see why it is taking longer to lay the floor on these floors with the Y beams. All the other levels has the 3 faces of the building that had a bend in the middle going inward. Now that they have that triangle appearance, it changes the 3 faces floor shape. Now the 3 faces do not meet right in the center, and it flattens inbetween the Y beams. Instead of the faces having made a V, now it is like \_/. I hope I made any since!! LOL

Your last sentence I can comprehend. But it makes my head hurt because I've tried to write about it myself, all while imagining it in my head, the angles involved with the top of this building. Very perplexing!
