I am a frequent visitor here, but have ever posted. I don't really have any insider info. on OKC happenings. I'm just a teacher. However, I thought the group would like to know about a contest that could help Oklahoma kids.

Oklahoma's libraries could use your votes in a contest to win 50,000 new books for our state. Oklahoma is currently leading in the voting, but Kentucky has often taken the lead. Oklahoma won in 2007, but Kentucky won 2008--I don't think this should happen again.

Voting is simple. Click on the link below, select Oklahoma from the drop-down list in the field called "Where would you like to send 50,000 new books?" and click on Submit.

None of the other fields are required, so you can skip them if you want.

You can vote as many times as you like - once every 24 hours, and you can keep voting through September 30.

In order to win the 50,000 books everyone needs to vote in the First Book
contest.

Thanks, and sorry if this is a first post faux pas.

I just did it and it shows Oklahoma in No 1 spot. That is a pleasant surprise. I hope others pile on here and keep us on the top.

Thanks for the vote. This is a great program that should benefit a large number of Oklahoma students if we are successful.

Low-Income Preschoolers To Get Free Books
AP - 8/3/2007 8:33 AM - Updated 8/3/2007 8:41 AM

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Oklahoma is the winner in a national online contest to donate 50,000 books to kids. First Book is a national, nonprofit literacy organization. The group conducted the competition in June and July. Members of the public were allowed to vote once daily for the state they wanted to receive the books.

First Book officials say Oklahoma got about 34,000 votes of the 133,000 cast.

Dorling-Kindersley publishers donated 50,000 new volumes. Oklahoma organizations with literacy programs throughout the state have applied to distribute some of the books.

In second place was Nebraska, with 5,000 fewer votes than Oklahoma.

The contest marked First Book's 15th anniversary of operation and its 50 millionth book donation.

I was thinking about this, but 50,000 new books is like a multi-million dollar gift. We really should get more people in on this.

yeah seriously, it's not an OKC vs. Tulsa thing, one of you Tulsa forum posters should post it on your boards.
