I was just in Orlando at the HRC (and the World Headquarters is there also) and they asked where I was from, and the first thing out of their mouths were, "Rumor has it, OKC is getting a HRC soon". I mentioned the "Motel 6" HRH/Casino in Tulsa and they laughed and said, yeah, we heard it was kinda cheap. And no mention of Tulsa getting a HRC either.

Would only be a nice addition if they actually have live music and book some solid bands

I can "kind of" see one opening at Remington Park in the future ... if ... the tribes sought a change to their compact that would put racinos on an equal footing with tribal casinos, and ... if ... the industry remained as hot as it is now, spurring the same sort of adjoining development that has taken place in and around Creek Casino.
That having been said ... guys ... do you really think an HRC is the key to big league city bliss?

I don't see it as the key to big league city bliss, but it is a recognizable brand that gives a diner options. I don't know if there's a maximum number of restaurants a place like Bricktown can support, but do think if they put it at Remington Park the cheesy factor would increase considerably. So, my answer is that I don't think it would hurt, just don't think it would give us instant cachet.

Bricktown has Toby Keiths and Coyote Ugly, so yeah, why cant we support a HRC?

The one in Tulsa is far from cheap. Making fun of the Hard Rock brand is understandable, but Hard Rock people making fun of their own brand is silly in this context. It's the nicest, most upscale casino in OK.

I dont think HRC peeps were making fun of their own brand, but where there brand is next going to land.

Sad but true, peeps in other places make fun of Oklahoma and give us mean faces.

Maybe they're just realists.

I don't care if we get one either way, but a Hard Rock is not much more prestigious than a Hooters.

I concur. Cherokee Casino, ummm, I mean, Hard Rock Casino in Tulsa, is probably the closest thing we have to Vegas of any of the state casinos. Has a decent high rise hotel actually connected to the casino complex....just like in Vegas. You literally go to the ground floor of the hotel and you're in the middle of the casino.

Not trying to bash Gatlinburg but wow that place has a population of 4,000 people! I just Google Earth'ed it and it looks like a decent place but wow thats a small place for a HRC. It does say that its a popular vacation spot.

I have always wanted a HRC in either OKC or Tulsa. I can remember as a kid going to one everytime we went on vacation. I think back in the day it was a big thing for a city to get a HRC. Now just about every major city has one and hardley any of them have live music anymore. I just got back from Memphis and I hung out on Beale Street both Friday and Saturday night. Not one time was there a live band playing at HRC Memphis. That Memphis and Beale Street and no band!?!

Gatlinburg is a huge tourist town. It's on a strip with the towns of Sevierville, and Pigeon Forge. It's much like a Branson. Dollywood and Dollywood Splash Country are there. Many shows, attractions, shops, museums are there. It has a Ripley's Aquarium, which is probably the best aquarium I've been to. Also has the Smokey Mountains National Park which is one of the most visited National Parks. Check it out. It's a cheap family get away. We stayed there for a week. Long 14 hour drive is the downside.

SuperChris7 - I was there about two months ago and I can sum the experience up in two words - Blown Away. I hadn't been to Gatlinburg in about 10 years and Gatlinburg today is awesome - for the entire family. My wife described the main drag as "Las Vegas, for normal people". Best attraction I did was 3D mini golf. Anyone know how hard it is to play mini-golf when the ball appears to be floating 6 inches off the ground? It's tough.

I'm with you, we were blown away too! The 3D mini golf was awesome! I really liked the Comedy Barn show the best. We did the Mysterious Mansion, and Ripley's Haunted Adventure. Loved both of them because my wife was scared to death!! The town is set up really nice. The whole area is very family oriented as well. If you go, you need to eat breakfast at Flap Jack's Pancake house for breakfast, and Calhoun's for dinner. You'll see what I mean! Kerry, did you eat at either one of these?

Umm, guess again... There are MANY people in this world that travel around and just go to the HRC's. The Hard Rock brand is still a very strong and prestigeous one.

And as far as them making fun of their own brand, they just laughed and said that many of the newer HR Hotels are "Glorified Motel 6". They said they plan on opening as many as 200 HRH around the world in the near future.

Chilis doesn't have the following like Hard Rock Cafes do. Let me guess, you are a Bueno-head... you visit all the Taco Buenos...lol (just kidding). :LolLolLol

I think it comes down to when you look at developing an entertainment district, we all want a bunch of unique local options, but you need to have a few nationally known brands to fill it out. HRC is one of these that people may not choose to eat at, are typically associated with areas where there is more to do than just eat. Building the awareness of the area by landing some key national brands, will make people more likely to check things out. They know the brands and will get comfortable with them. Once they are here, then it is time to sell the unique local brands that will make us stand out from the others.

first off, the Hard Rock in Tulsa is not cheap, as the OP said, its quite a nice place.
and I can already see a difference, it was never empty, but now is always full, imagine driving in from out of state, (where the HR sits gets a lot of travelers), would you be more inclined to stop at a random casino, or one that has a big Hard Rock sign.

Oh boy, Niel Pert's drum stick! I can't imagine deciding to go to a city all so I can eat average food and look at some dead or forgotten rocker's leather pants.

Me and 4 of my friends went down there yesterday for a birthday party only to find out that we couldn't gamble because we were only 18.. you have to be 21 to gamble which I thought was pretty LAME!!!! We ended up spending 2 hours at a local applebees.. :hungry:

And Applebees was the fallback position?

Actually nearly all indian casinos in this state you only have to be 18 to gamble as long as alcohol isn't served on the gaming floor - if I remember right.

Oops. I presumed the age was 21 because I thought they all served alcohol.
Or maybe it's because the few times I have ever entered one, it seemed like the vast majority of folks on site were old enough to be my parents.

I like Hard Rock burgers. I usually stop at at one, pick up a glass of some sorts, and have a pretty decent burger. It would be nice to have one in OKC. Another eatery. Can't complain.

We get it. Some of you think it's like Chili's burgers. Some of us don't like Chili's.

Applebees.........HRC........it's all about the same. Typical bar and grill.

I'm not going to go on vacation to a city just because they have a HRC. It's not like I'd go to Fargo, ND just to go to a HRC if they had one. Just like I wouldn't go to OKC just because they have an Elephant Restaurant and Bar.

Does NYC have a Hard Rock?
Yes

Does anyone who lives in NYC go anywhere near times square where it is located, much less eat there?
NO

Hard Rock takes advantage of tourists who recognize the name and are used to second rate food. A hard rock in OKC doesn't make us cool it just signals undeveloped palates that like the stuff they serve.

I hate to ask what an 8oz. sirloin goes for at the Hard Rock. $28? The food at these places is overpriced almost to the point of sushi restaurants. Ridiculous.

In regards to people traveling to these places, I escorted some teenagers around Europe this summer and one of the main things they wanted to do was hit as many HR's as they could. Ugh!

Kids do some of the goofiest things.

Great? Hmmm.

Back when there was only one Hard Rock in Tokyo, it was pretty much the only place in Kanto where a non-military, ex-pat could find BBQ ribs (they shared a kitchen with Tony Roma's).

They did the trick but they were about as 'authentic' as some of the sushi rolls at an Oklahoma City habachi joint. Not the best...but you're paying for the atmosphere more than anything else.

I felt compelled to use this description for the HRC. Even though I like their burgers and their atmosphere.
