Well, I'm sure most of you know that Pepe's and Turquoise were shut down for some tax reason (anyone know specifically?), but it seems they'll be re-opening soon. Pepe's will, that is. Apparently, Pepe's is moving to the Turqoise location and Turquoise is done for. It'll be interesting to see how Pepe's does in that location.

Anyone have additional information on what's going on?

^Basically what you said. The owner of the restaurants apparently didn't pay state taxes on time and as such the state tax comission shut down both places. Too bad Turquoise won't be coming back, I had read good reviews of the food there and really wanted to try it out.

Hopefully Turquoise comes back and opens up in Harold's old space on Boyd!

BOOOO!!! Turquise was really good. I had some delicious tenderloin, and their tomato bisque was AMAZING!

Chipotle is going in on Asp on the first floor of the old Boomer Theater; there is another retail space to the north and offices above. Iron Starr is going in just north of In The Raw on University in the old Harold's Outlet building.

The owner of Pepe's says the official grand re-opening will be Thursday, September 3rd. Let's hope this holds.

Yep...according to their Facebook page, they had "one last hoop to jump through" and had to move the re-opening to Friday. I'll believe it when I see it.

Pepe's is open...and Turquoise will never exist again. wonder whats gonna go in Pepe's old space now that they've occupied Turquoise's?

Salinas, who also owned Turquoise, said there was not enough volume of customers to keep it open.

“Three days were only busy and the rest were slow,” Salinas said. “It was also a bit overpriced.”

Omar Goyzueta, petroleum engineering senior, said he was sad Turquoise was closing instead of Pepe’s because he enjoyed its food more.

Nope. The one in Norman.

Sorry about that, I should have noticed that the thread was under the Norman heading. Is Pepe's a mexican restaurant?

I heard the issues with the taxes was that they weren't reporting the illegals they had working for them. Anyone know if there's truth to that?

Once again, the reporting of unfounded rumors threatens undermine the very limited credibility that online restaurant reviews might ever have had.
Really? do you actually believe the Oklahoma tax commission has any interest or authority over "not reporting illegals". For Chrissakes! I garauntee you the taxed income from the big chain restaurants which are more likely to employ some under-the-table Guatamalians is enough to keep the OTC of the back of the likes of Pepe del Gados, and if the OTC were shutting down establishments for "not reporting illegals" don't you think that there might be more than just one obscure campus corner restaurant effected? Besides, i heard that they were shuttin' em down because that nazi, socialist pepe supported the govt. take over of veggie taco platters. Kelly Ogle told me so.

Before you step off the high-horsed soap box, do you think you could look back and see if you can read the part where I was ASKING if there truth to it or not....not making accusations. I have zero desire to start a thread on any immigration issues.

But more to the point, they are shutting places down for that, so it's not like it doesn't happen. It doesn't really take much effort on the part of a tax official to determine if something fishy is happening at ANY place of business. The better known a place is, the more it becomes a target, so of course a lesser known establishment (even if it's near Capital Hill) may not get as much attention.

Fair enough about the soap box, however, "just askin' " seems tantamount to leveling a pretty serious accusation or at least introducing a dangerous rumor. Especially since the topic of emilio's hiring practices had NOT been mentioned pryor to your question.

'sides, i like my high-horse. the veiw's better up here.

Can we change the name of this thread to "Pepe del Gados" so as not to confuse with Pepe's in Edmond?

Why would anyone confuse this with Pepe's in Edmond as this is on the Norman thread?
