View Full Version : Home Poker Game - NW OKC LandryTeam 07-10-2009, 08:05 AM Does anyone know the "rules/law" about home poker games in Oklahoma? bretthexum 07-10-2009, 10:11 AM Can't imagine anyone would enforce anything unless it was a daily/big money deal. LandryTeam 07-10-2009, 10:11 AM Thanks...I was thinking the same. ultimatesooner 07-10-2009, 12:25 PM had a friend in Yukon get busted for one, the cops just made everyone leave fuzzytoad 07-10-2009, 01:11 PM Section 941 states that anyone administering any game of cards or dice for money or anything of value, is guilty of a felony where the penalty is between $500-$2000, and 1-10 years in a state penitentiary. Anyone betting or playing at these prohibited games are guilty of a misdemeanor and have to pay a fine of $25-$100 and 1-30 days in a county jail. and yes, we're the only state where it's a Felony, according to http://www.homepokergames.com/homepokerlaw.php sooners83 07-10-2009, 01:38 PM If the house takes a rake (a % of the pot) then it is illegal. Some home games take a rake to help pay for food, beer, etc. If the house does not make any money, I have been told that there is nothing to worry about. LandryTeam 07-10-2009, 01:53 PM Man...thanks all! MadMonk 07-10-2009, 02:51 PM I don't know about "the man", but here are my poker night rules: 1. Everyone must BYOB 2. Everyone must bring an offering of food for group (BBQ is ALWAYS welcome). Please coordinate with each other ahead of time so that we don't have 15 bags of lays brought to the game. 3. Married guys: plan on spending some time at the game, none of this leaving at 10:00pm business. Keep in mind that it's easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission. 4. You break it, you bought it. 5. Finally, you must self-regulate your drinking. If you drink too much, plan on staying the night. However, you should be aware that there are consequences for passing out at my place. Waking up the next morning wearing women's lingerie on a cot on the front lawn is one example. Remember - pictures will be taken and the internet is forever so don't be "that guy". :LolLolLol Luke 07-18-2009, 02:06 PM Why in the world would we have laws if they're not enforced? Why does the government care if we play poker? MadMonk 07-18-2009, 05:17 PM When's the last time you heard of someone being ticketed for jaywalking? Some things aren't worth the effort. Luke 07-18-2009, 05:18 PM Then why have them on the books? kevinpate 07-19-2009, 03:12 AM > Then why have them on the books? Simply because sometimes peeps get pissy about something, and the pissy at times also have friends in the right places. PennyQuilts 07-19-2009, 05:45 AM And if someone tries to roll back a law like jaywalking or home poker, it will make headline news that they are blood thirsty pedestrian killers who want to legalize backroom gambling. kevinpate 07-19-2009, 08:27 AM and have to walk to get there cause they lost their car in the last game 8^) venture 07-26-2009, 12:15 AM Then why have them on the books? Granted some of these were finally removed...but if you ask why, then consider the rest of the junk lawmakers spent time on. LOL Dumb Laws in Oklahoma. Crazy Oklahoma Laws. We have weird laws, strange laws, and just plain crazy laws! (http://www.dumblaws.com/laws/united-states/oklahoma) |
