Is there anyway you can create an overlay of all the earthquakes we have had in Oklahoma this year? Is there a connection?

Are there any geological formations in Oklahoma like the Palmdale Bulge in Southern California?

Possum, this doesn't answer your question but I found it interesting. It shows all the earthquakes in Oklahoma between 1977 and 2001. The earthquakes shown in red are the ones strong enough to be felt.

we had a 3.4 earthquake near mcloud tuesday, did anyone feel it?

I had a lot of free time this week while waiting on the gas lines in our yard to be repaired. Wait on the plumber, wait on the contractor to put in the new line, wait on at&t to repair phone and internet lines the contractor cut, now Im waiting on ONG. Did I mention that patience isnt one of my virtues. lol I feel like a hostage in my own home.

Jesseda...I didnt feel it but heard something on channel 9 at noon (while waiting) and that reminded me of Possums request of Venture. I tried to find some info online about it but wasnt succesful. Did it do any damage?

We have a pretty active seismic zone in Oklahoma with around 100-150 earthquakes a year. There is one main fault line in SW Oklahoma which the Wichitas developed on...but doesn't look like there is a lot of activity there. There are others throughout the state and our ground (dirt) type also plays into things.

I've heard there were up to 8 earthquakes in the state today including a 3.4 near ADA and a 2.7 near Jones. Anyone feel them? NewsOk's story mentions 6. http://newsok.com/four-earthquakes-hit-oklahoma-this-morning/article/3396104

Whew.....in a way thats almost a relief. A volcano will only take out the area near it....initially. I was worried it might be the aliens from War of the Worlds trying to break through the ground. You know we did have a pretty good lightning storm the other night. :Smiley259

There were at least two more strong earthquakes in the phillipines today..
one was 7.3 the other was 7.8. Hawaii is under a tsunami advisory for this evening, which ay be upgraded to a warning later. Thats a lot of earthquakes on the same plate boundary over the last couple of weeks. Kinda makes you wonder whats going on down there.

Definitely a lot of slipping of the plates down there. Probably a good thing this is happen, because with the magnitude of these...if it is was just one major quake - I would hate to see how much power it would have.

No kidding about it being good that all that energy wasnt released in one mega-quake. Can you imagine? It still seems unusual for 5+ >7. quakes to occur on the same boundary in just a two/three week period. You gotta feel for those people down there. Maybe Australia is tired of being an island continent and has decided to move north to join Asia.

Son of a buck! Whats going on?

So far nothing approaching the 1952 quake (5.5) or anything above 4.0...though I'm sure it'll eventually happen again. At least we are getting these weaker quakes instead of letting it all build up for something stronger.

I just don't remember 10% of the activity as we've had lately. Seems they are getting significantly more frequent.

I clearly recall the 1952 earthquake. I was 4 and I remember I was running outside. Suddenly I was just flat on the ground with no idea how or why. When I entered our little house my mother was cleaning up something that had fallen off the wall and broken.

Guess I wasn't dreaming this morning either. Must have woke right at the end, the quaking only seemed to last about 2 seconds and didn't seem as strong as the day before. This seems like 3 days in a row, because my wife thinks she felt a small tremor Friday afternoon.

National Science Foundation will be starting a project next year for 2-3 years that will bring more seismic monitoring equipment to the state. Would be interesting to see what is actually going on down there.

Pretty much. Unfortunately we don't have enough monitoring equipment to know exactly what is going on. People have posted the point that we are sitting on a subduction zone so earthquakes will happen. The concentration in that part of OK County has some interest, but that is what the experts are for. For all we know it is the start of a new fault forming, gas/oil drilling, uplift in the crust, whatever.

I'll start getting worried when we see multiple earthquakes daily for an extended period of time. :)
