Did you see that we can have custom avatars? I'm interested to see what people come up with. Mine is my girl, Evelyn. We'd just lost her sister, Jezebel, and Evelyn kept looking for her. In the photo, she was looking out the front window.

We still really miss Jezebel.

Thats sad ECO. I know its hard losing a pet, just the same as losing a member of the family.

Mine is a picture of a sunset in Lagos, Nigeria. My sister and I went there for Christmas/New Years to visit our parents. My father is in the oil and gas business. It was our first day and we were on a walk near my parent's compound, that was actually Christmas Eve, also my birthday.

Nik, that's so nice. What a nice memory. And thanks about Jezebel.

Once bacteria evolve resistances to antibiotics, there will be very little between the patients and a fatal bacterial infection. However, there are viruses that only infect and destroy bacteria. It's harder for pathogens to out evolve the viruses since the virus can also adapt. That's my profile pic.

See, I would never have recognized that (or known that). Thanks!

If we can have custom avatars, why not the ability to go back and edit/delete old posts?

no, i will not drop this subject :-)

Was there a time we didn't have custom avatars? Since when did they go away?

Man, I must be so "old" around here....

you can edit posts up to around an hour after you've made the post.

older posts, not so much... could definitely be used for shenanigans. 'no, i never said that...'

if anyone needs help editing/deleting an old post, pm a moderator. -M

For shenanigans?

This is the only BBS I frequent which imposes that 1 hour cap.

Most I'm on allow it for no longer than 24 hours unless it's a for sale thread (which need periodic price adjustments, pictures added, etc) for the reason mmm stated.

If shenanigans are the concern, this particular software (believe it or not, they let me be a mod elsewhere) allows moderators to view deleted posts. There could be an option for someone to simply be able to 'soft delete' old posts.

FWIW, I don't really see what damage could be caused by 'shenanigans.'

It's an internet message board.

bbs? so how well does okctalk load up from your 14.4k modem, anyway? : P

many of the other places i visit don't let you change your post at all... i think the way it is set up here is a decent compromise. -M

I actually ran a BBS at one point on a 2400bd modem.

Good times.

Fora such as this have a very similar feel -- just without kickass ANSI art.

The name I'm keeping close to the vest. You can PM me though. Yes, I was an uber-nerd.

We mainly (believe it or not) had decent message boards, a FIDO node for awhile, some other FIDO-like thing for awhile... Hosted a decent TW2002 game and various other games.

-- and we let people edit their posts.
