That was a good one too. What about the guy who came to a monastery during a rainstorm and ended up releasing the Devil from a cell? Being a good little Catholic boy at that time, I was really creeped out by that one.

There were actually two versions of that episode. The first one was with William Shatner in the original series in 1963. The second starred John Lithgow (later to star in "Third Rock from the Sun"). It was in the 1983 Movie version of Twilight Zone. I thought Lithgow's performance was much better than Shatner's.

My favorite episode was the one from 1961 starring Agnes Morehead which had no dialogue at all where she was in a battle with invading aliens in her farmhouse. At the end we found out the aliens were from the USA. People who only remember her from "Bewitched" don't realize what a great actress she was.

I think that was Rod Serling's Night Gallery. The guy survived excruciating pain and agony while the earwig bored through his brain, but he survived when it exited his other ear.

The kicker closing line:

It was The New Vaudeville Band and was an interesting record because it was meant to sound like an old Rudy Vallee song sung through a megaphone.

I had the 45 for Washington Square and it was one of my favorites. I just recently sold all my collection of 45's from the 60's to the Golden Oldies record shop on S. Western. I didn't get that much but I didn't have any way to play them any more and didn't want them to just finally get thrown away. Hopefully someone will still enjoy them some day.

And you hung-on to that TV until it exploded, or some thing similar happened. Our channel tuner started giving us fits. You had to turn to the station you wanted and then lodge a butter knife in the dial or it would not hold the station.

For some reason a TV show popped into my head that I hadn't thought about for years but I never missed it when it was on in the mid 70's. It was a soap opera parady called "Mary Hartman Mary Hartman" and was another Norm Lear production. Louise Lasser was amazing and the dialogue was incredible.

Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer. That show was never a favorite of mine though.

If I recall correctly (and sometimes I don't) Earl Hagen wrote Harlem Nocturne. He also wrote themes from That Girl, Mod Squad, and Andy Griffith (a.k.a. The Old Fishin' Hole).

I checked it out and you are correct: Earl Hagen (and another guy) wrote "Harlem Nocturne" . . .
It is astounding--to me--that the same composer's mind could also produce those other tunes.

It is almost as if Ennio Morricone also wrote the theme to "Sesame Street" . . .
