I still think it's a classy building.

Do you remember the name of the theater? I'm thinking the name started
with a G, but I'm not certain.

Dairy Queen on 36th and S. Walker made the same spiffy move while I was in school.

I loved when you placed your order and they waved at you when it was ready.

Went to Los Tacos the other day and asked if they would still do it. No real response.

Am I that old?

That would have been Yount's. I believe they also had a store @ NW 68

of the parking lot where they hanged the daily specials and sale items.

I'm not sure but it seems that Cock O The Walk was originaly downtown. Don't know where it wal located but Dad said it was one of the few "off Limits" bars in town.

Anyone remember the West Side Grocery and Meats? It might be older than any of us. I just saw a picture of it recently and it is a Capitol Hill business.

what is the date of the Spring Lake post card? I see the number 33 but I think that is the card number in a series and not 1933.

The grounds are more plush. During the 60's it was covered by concret, a rock and ? mixture, and other such things............

They had an arcade with all kinds of toys inside. In some of the vending machines were autographed postcards of movie, tv stars, mucial groups, singers..............printed of course............
They weren't worth the penny you spent but to a young school kid you were cool.
Wonder what one would be worth today.

There was a "Cock O The Walk" downtown back in the day before all the urban renewal crap. IIRC it was on Broadway around California or Reno. I remember going in there only a couple of times.

Butchers are soon going to be a thing of the past. There was a time when
grocers were proud of their butchers and their ability to select the best meat
for it's customers.

When was the last time you saw a 7 bone roast? What happens when you
ask for a special grind of meat? Get a lame excuse, i.e. we just washed the
grinder, or we don't do that.

Wheelers will do it but I don't know anyone else........

When I was 14 I was hit by a car while riding my little Yamaha 80 in Harrah.
Broke my right leg and messed-up my left knee. Spent 2 weeks in hospital and all summer in a wheelchair. The woman who hit me was the mother of the butcher at Humpty Dumpty. We lived two blocks from the store and often traded there. He was a really great guy but his Mom was a drunk(She hit me on a Sunday at 11:30 while pulling into a bar. She was already drunk) so nothing was ever said either way.

Albertson's was good about attempting to give you a good personal cut of meat. But you have to realize the meat they were supplied with was not "choice".

I think it was Gray's Dairy. Wasn't it closer to S. Walker? We got our milk
from there in the late 50's and early 60's. When we found out that Meadow
Gold made porch deliveries we started using them. It wasn't the same.
Gray's milk had to be shaken for a while so the cream would mix with the milk.

I used to just pour the cream on my cereal until Ma Prune knocked me into
the next week. I still don't think I've fully recovered.
