What Southside OKC memories can you share? Don't be bashful, post'em up!

Anyone remember the public swimming pools? Elmwood, Taylor Park, Woodson...

How about the Slot Car Tracks from the '60s? There was one at SW 59th and Penn, but I can't remember the name.

I used to go to trap shoots with my Dad and brother at 3100 S.W. 119th just a little W. of May. I think at the time (60's) it was called the Antioch Ballroom, the bldg. is still there unless it has very recently been torn down. Does anyone know anything about it past or present? On Google street view it is the same bldg. I remember, only painted a light blue with the address , phone # and V/169 painted across the S. side of it.

Why was the original thread closed? Do we need to move the southside memories thread to another forum? If so I have an open forum if you guys want to move this topic there so it is less cluttering on OKC talk PM me if anyone is interested in moving the Southside Memories.

why was the original thread closed?
there were some problems in the original thread that necessitated its closure. it was also getting pretty long... better to start a new thread.

do we need to move the southside memories thread to another forum?
nope. you're welcome to post about nostalgia on okctalk. in fact, we're planning on introducing a new 'nostalgia' section sometime in the near future. the thread was not closed as a means of discouragement.

Yeah, it's just a minor annoyance of mine (well, not just mine, apparently, or else they wouldn't be planning on opening up another section for them, you know?). Sounds like it won't be for too much longer, though. http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/8426/thumbsup.gif

I remember the one on SW 59th but not the name. There was a sign that
said HOBBY After I saved for and bought a Cox "La Cucaracha" the place
closed. I was heart broken. The other slot car tracks closed about the same
time.

There was on in Capitol Hill where Coney Island is, now.

Think so.....
You know, there is someone by the name of Matt that is giving the thread a hard time...Quit opening it up if you don't want to read this. We were at 2000 plus replies and 35,000 views....Still enjoy this but, what's the deal??? the moderators shut it down without discussion????It seems that something was going right for this whole thing and if you look at the views just today (first day) you'll be surprised.....

wORKS FOR ME....you know, over 250 views (TODAY) and something is wrong??? If they could get the rest of the threads to be something that others are interested in (like this) there could be a real deep discussion of some real important measures. Like how deep is a Black Hole?...How about it Matt/

What was the building on the east side of the street about 64th and S. Penn in the early 1960s? School, church, day care? It had a short chain link fence around the "play-yard".

Where did the white man go wrong?

Indian Chief "Two Eagles" was asked by a white U.S. Government
official,
"You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars
and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the
damage he's done." The Chief nodded in agreement. The official
continued, "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did
the white man go wrong?"

The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and
then
calmly replied: "When white man find land, Indians running it, no
taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did
all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and
fishing; All night having sex.'

Then the chief leaned back and smiled "Only white man dumb enough to
think he could improve system like that."
