The Norman Transcript - NEW: Structural issues force closing of Vista building, tenants being moved (http://www.normantranscript.com/localnews/local_story_037180033.html)

Norman's landmark Vista building was closed to the public Friday, after concerns arose about the building's structural integrity.

Whoa. I wonder how long the building will be vacated and if The Vista and those law offices will just permanently relocate.

A shame. Perhaps it will be feasible to rehab the place.

this is tragic.... I hope we know something soon. I feel empty inside not knowing I can just visit my Vista whenever I want... Dangit.

If a wind gust of 50+ mph would cause the building to collapse (as was reported today) I highly doubt it. You could raze the building and build new for the cost of rehab. In a way maybe this a blessing because that building is ugly and outdated in an otherwise great historic district. I'd love to see it replaced with something that fits in better with Vista still on the top floor.

Yeah, it would be nice to see a new building, of equal height if not taller, that has a historic/unique look to it.

^Today's Transcript article reported that the City is monitoring wind speeds and gusts with sensors mounted on the building, is also looking at the daily NWS forecasts and has plans ready to clear the area in case the building is exposed to that 3 second+ 50mph gust. Hopefully its stays in one piece until something is done to repair it/replace it.

Will the Vista blow down today?

They decided that they will repair the building instead of demolishing it, saying that it would have cost as much to tear it down as it will to fix the structural problems: linky (http://www.normantranscript.com/localnews/local_story_101185132.html)

Replace the windows on the westside and add windows to the eastside and I'll be happy. Hope they take this opportunity and make some meaningful improvements.

They have the building stabilised for the most part but the fence hasn't gone and tenants haven't moved back in so there's obviously some work left.

So are there any other good bars in Norman that have NFL Sunday Ticket?

So far I know Louie's on Campus Corner has it...I just want to know if there are any options in town instead of driving to Moore or OKC (and not getting DirecTV myself).

NewsOK (http://newsok.com/norman-building-wont-be-occupied-for-months/article/3406510?custom_click=rss)

Some rumors flying around now in some of the other Norman drinking establishments directly from former Vista staff that they will indeed return when the building reopens most likely no sooner than 2/1/10 at the earliest since the restaurant is likely to undergo remodeling.

I know BJ's and Louie's has Sunday Ticket. I know there's at least one other place, but I can't think of it.

I havent heard anything about this building for a while. Is there any noticible progress, and has anybody signed to move back in? I would be weary of a building that almost tipped over because of wind if I were looking to rent office space too. ...

Should be having folks moving in late winter/early spring. Not certain how many of former tenants are returning, but I don't believe it was be many. I have also heard tell a state agency, presently leasing elsewhere in Norman, will be taking a significant portion of this building for its Norman based staff.
