Regatta Festival to make waves in fifth year
The festival will run Friday through Oct. 5 in Regatta Park along the Oklahoma River. Admission is free. Visitors can enjoy family fun and live rowing showcasing collegiate, club and corporate rowing races. About 1,500 athletes will compete, many with collegiate teams from Oklahoma, other states and Canada, Knopp said.
And 2008 Beijing Olympic medalists from the U.S. National Team will conduct rowing exhibitions Saturday night during the OG&E NightSprints, Knopp said.
Lights will illuminate the river during the night races, which are followed by laser, light, fireworks and music shows Friday and Saturday nights, he said. "It will really be a special, very unique event over the river. I think people will enjoy that,” he said.
Entertainment, food, wine
The night sprints will be shown on a large screen for easy viewing by festival visitors, said Josh Osmon, festival spokesman."It's just a great experience for everyone to watch and cheer on teams,” he said. "At the same time as the night sprints, we have the festival going on.”
Live entertainment and local food and wine also await visitors, Osmon said. "Basically, it's just a great three-day event,” he said. "We are going to have so many different things.”
