So, now the bridge is fenced off and no visible work is happening.

And I think they have added a bunch of steel cables that are attached to the pylons that I don't remember seeing...

You can see they have started the repair work:

I hope the wood they're using smells as good as the old wood did. I always liked going out on the bridge and smelling that sweet aroma. lol

I think a few posts back, it was said it was going to be synthetic, no doubt due to lower maintenance cost.

So is the light grayish color the new decking? And wow how careful must they be to not drop something onto the traffic below...

Yes, they are working north to south.

Through total circumstance this ended up being a really good time to get this done, not like there's heavy park usage at the moment.

They have their work area netted for traffic protection.

From Lackmeyer's chat today:

"Yes, the re-decking underway consists of light concrete panels that should be a lot better than the wood planks."

Wonder why they didn't use that polycarbonate stuff used with decks?

Took these today. Seems to be about 2/3rds complete:

are they going to do anything about wood on the sides? just leaving it? it's fine, but looks maybe slightly tacky now that the deck is refreshed... similarly what about the benches that were wood?

Ha, they barely got the deck fixed, and it took them *how* long? The wood sides and benches ain't going nowhere...

Was walking the park today and walked up to the bridge. I saw this on the nearest light. I believe it’s an actual Scissortail watching over the park.

They'll finish the panels by Monday (05-11), hopefully they be able to open the bridge by the end of May or early June.

You can see in these photos that the new planks are metal. It doesn't appear they are replacing the wood on the sides.

I find the lack of any easily apparently discernible pattern on the new decking to be slightly disturbing. Maybe there's a larger pattern I'm not seeing, however.

Metal, huh? I wonder how comfortable that's going to be to walk across in August. Sort of reminds me of the aluminum bleachers at my school. You definitely didn't want to touch those with your bare legs.

Or if it freezes over with ice.

Seems like a weird choice, but I'm sure it will be durable.

The decking has been done for a while; you can see a couple of workers but I'm not sure what's left to do at this point.

Maybe someone more familiar with the details of this project can fill in the blanks for me, but. I don't understand why they had so much difficulty with the wood planks. It's not like there haven't been perfectly durable wood footbridges built all over the world, but this one was plagued with problems seemingly from the outset.

They probably bought them from the same place they bought the P180 crosswalk paint from (yes, I know the paint wasn't the right formulation for that application, that's just a failure of another sort). :)

Someone should be responsible for taxpayers having to replace the entire bridge after such a short time. Is there any investigation into why such a big mistake was made?

And could we bundle that investigation with all the other fiascos the city has made with P180 and the other things they can't seem to figure out without screwing them up first? :Smiley122

What's the work being done (sorry if it's somewhere in here, too many pages to go through haha)? I noticed they had nets under the bridge so i assume that was to replace the wood walkway with the metal. What else is being done?

Visited Dallas to see family a few weeks ago and visited Klyde Warren Park there for a bit. Sort of would defeat the purpose of Skydance Bridge, but it would have been really cool to have I-40 capped to create a seamless transition from Scissortail Park to the lower park. That would have been a cool MAPS project I actually would have wanted to see happen, more so than a soccer stadium.

Replacing the decking is the only work that was approved and that seems to have been completed almost 2 months ago.
