Has anyone actually tried this in their car? You can look anywhere and see the claims of better gas mileage...I just want to know if anyone has actually tried and what the results were.

From what I have seen on the internet, you are supposed to add 3oz per 10 gal to your gas. It apparently increases your gas mileage by 10-35 percent.

How much does it cost?

Acetone is cheap. You can buy it at the drug store for $5-10 for a large bottle.

I have heard just as many people saying this claim is false as I have that it is true. I just wanted to hear actual accounts from people that have actually tried it, not random internet sites.

One of the local news stations ran an article on their website a few weeks ago saying this was a good thing to try. It also said that you need to limit the amount to 3az per 10 gallons, otherwise the results drop.

I know people who have personally got about 50% better gas mileage using it. I guess it can vary depending on how much you use and what type of vehicle you have. The naysayers, mainly Myth Busters, used too much (more than the 3oz) which has also been scientifically proven to reduce gas mileage. Be on the safe side and use 2oz per 10 gal if you're going to do it I suppose. Anyhow, there has been much discussion on it as well as check out this old thread:

*Again, I am not endorsing either side, just know people who say it has worked both ways. Make your own decision or try it out then you'll know for yourself.

No, you don't.

Unless they had some blockage in their valve or system that the aceton cleaned up, you just know people that make stuff up.

I would say 75% of the drivers on the road could get a bigger increase in mileage by properly inflating their tires or getting a tune-up.

Oh GAWD the Smell!

Reminds me of that cultish group that claims you can buy their product (basically moth balls) and put them in your gas tank for better mileage.

This may go the way of moth balls and polish remover, but it seemed to have more legit media around it.

The odd thing here though is that there are several media reports that
seem to support their claims.
