Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum Now Offering Cell Phone Tour

By Jay F. Marks of the Oklahoman

Visitors now can let their fingers do the walking as they stroll around the outdoor memorial at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.

Officials today unveiled a cell phone tour that will allow visitors to hear from the memorial's designers as they browse the site of the former Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, which was destroyed by a bomb blast on April 19, 1995.

“This cell phone tour provides memorial visitors a deeper understanding of the bombing and its impact on this community and nation, and is available 24 hours a day, free of charge to visitors,” said Executive Director Kari Watkins. “We are grateful to the AT&T Foundation for giving us the opportunity to engage visitors in the site using something the majority carries with them everywhere they go.”

Visitors can dial 445-4792 to learn about 11 points at the outdoor memorial. Additional information is available about several key sites.

Signs at the memorial indicate which sites are described in the phone tour.

What a great idea! There are other things around the city where this could be used.

I've been meaning to post something like this for quite some time. Most other cities have city tours and downtown tours via cell phone. They also have Iphone and .mp3 city tour downloads for free. Our Chamber of Commerce and some of you techie guru's should create some podcasts and other types of downloads for free city tours.
