Town & Country opens July 17 in The Underground

Downtown Oklahoma City - Eight metro artists bring their collective talents to the Downtown Oklahoma City Invited Artists Gallery in The Underground, July 17 in an exhibition entitled Town & Country. Town & Country aims to show the dichotomy of Oklahoma City’s culture as it moves into its second century. Thanks to Devon Energy the exhibition is free and open to the public beginning with an opening reception on July 17, noon-1:30 pm.

Town and Country features eight Oklahoma artists. Four of the artists, Dylan Bradway, Romy Owens, Mary Lou Stokes and Cassie Stover, produced works representing “Town”, or more specifically art that speaks to the urban culture of the growing Oklahoma City area. The other four artists, David Holland, Leslie Lienau, Regina Murphy and Sharon Webster, created works representing “Country”, or the rural landscape that is equally important to the experience and identity of the people of Oklahoma City. Town & Country is curated by Clint Stone.

Already an aesthetic experience, The Underground is the recently renovated Conncourse. Architects from Elliott + Associates transformed the space with ambient lighting, clear directional signage, and, now, artwork exhibitions. These quarterly exhibitions improve the experience of visitors to the Underground Tunnels through artwork. Furthermore, the exhibitions draw attention to the thriving arts culture in Oklahoma City. The gallery can be accessed through any of the Underground entrances, but the nearest access point is at the corner of Robert S. Kerr Blvd and Robinson.

The Invited Artists Gallery sits underneath the intersection of Robinson and Robert S. Kerr with entrances from all adjacent buildings. Town & Country is on display Monday through Friday from 6 am until 8 pm, the exhibition continues through October 9.
