I'm selling my car, to get a different one. But, i'm wondering how much to sell this one for.

It's a 4 door '97 Pontiac Grand Am SE, 3.1L V6 with 186,500 miles.
I've replaced all four tires, new, replaced the AC Compressor and Dryer. The radiator is new, so are the hoses to it. Oil change is about due, it's almost 3,000 miles since the last change, and on this car, i keep it changed often just for the fact of it's high mileage. It runs great, I even drove it to Rogers, AR and back two weeks ago.

A friend of mine told me I should list it for $4,500 OBO.

Whats your opinion?
And before I get any guff from anyone, no i'm not trying to sell it here.

Run a Kelly Blue Book on it:

New Car Prices & Used Car Blue Book Values - Official Kelley Blue Book Site (http://www.kbb.com/)

Print out the results and put in on your window next to your For Sale sign.

Make sure you and buyer sign a Sales slip and fill out forms from the Tag Agency so your liability for the car is over and done once it's sold.

Thanks for the information Karried, KBB says $2425.

Is it reasonable to sell for slightly more because of all the replaced parts? I forgot it also has a new belt and belt tensioner assembly as well.

I mean at that price, if we figure up the brakes [everything $215] that I replaced four months ago, the new radiator and hoses [$135], belt and belt tensioner assembly [$94], AC Compressor and Dryer with refrigerant [$285], 4 new tires, Goodyear Regatta's [$456] and of course there are small things like head lights being replaced, tail lights, tag light, etc. not to mention all the labor of doing it myself. That's at least worth an extra $1,500. So now i'm still debating.

It's still a 10 year old car with nearly 200k miles...You will be lucky to get $2500.

Checking through craigslists, cuatrodemayo, based upon your conclusion, everyone is overpriced.

Huh?

Nobody is going to pay more than the blue book value for a used car.

I'm just saying, I saw a car that was a '92 mazda, and they were selling it for $5,200

There are lots of cars like that on craigslist. Just saying.

That is a completely different car.

Look up 97 grand am on craigslist.

new parts don't really mean much to the price of a used car

your replacements, provided the shell of the car is on the higher end of still looking nice, might keep you toward the high end of the book value. But the mileage on the car is your killer on the value. None of your replacements really impact the long term wear on the powerpack and drivetrain.

To hit the price you were thinking, my best guess is you either need a rather unsavy buyer or someone with more money than sense who needs a car right then that very day. The latter are hard to come by.

Why is it hard for a person to sell a used car for $5,000, but a dealership can easily sell a used car for $10,000.

If you really want to sell your car, then park it near a popular used dealership lot and pray more and more.

It's similar to Kelly Blue Book plus there's lots of good information there about selling (and buying) cars.
