On another thread, a Mr. Humphries noted his blog site imagiNATIVEamerica (http://imaginativeamerica.com). I think calling Oklahoma ImagiNative is pretty cool.

Yes, I saw his post in another thread. Not a lot of content yet, but I agree, it's a great name for an Oklahoma blog. His name is Blair Humphries, I asked if he is Blair, brother of Grant and son of Kirk. Great blog name, you are right. Nice clean logo, too.

What happened to this blog? Site seems to no longer exist.

I was attempting to changeover some features on my hosting and ran into some technical issues. My host is supposed to be fixing the problem soon.

I will be back and blogging as soon as I can. Sorry about that.

No problem. I just happened to go looking for it the day it was down. Was afraid it was gone for good.

Hey All - imagiNATIVEamerica is back up and I have just added a new post on the 1910 Dunn Outer Parkway and Interior Boulevards plan for OKC (http://imaginativeamerica.com/2008/11/oklahoma-citys-1910-plan-for-grand-boulevard-by-wh-dunn/).

Here is a example:

Pretty cool to find one of the early plans that helped to shape our city. I hope you enjoy it.

It's a great post (especially for map lovers, like me).

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a49/DougLoudenback/maps/1910bookcover.jpg

His post also includes drawings, and some photos, included in 1910 publication, cover shown above. In his blog article you can download a PDF version of the booklet containing the full proposal (26 pages) and another containing a fairly high resolution scan (1950 px x 2416 px upon extraction from the PDF file) of the map posted in his message, above.

The map itself bears a 1909 date on its face. It also provides an excellent basis for comparing a very similar 1911 city planning map. It is evident that the 1909 and 1911 maps had the same original source (doubtless the 1909 map) although some significant changes appear in the 1911 version. For the 1911 version, go here here: Doug Dawgz Blog: Okc Street Map History (http://dougdawg.blogspot.com/2007/08/okc-street-map-history.html#1911%20Planning%20Map) .

This is a great find by Blair. Okc history students should NOT miss it!

It doesn't appear we followed this plan completely. We certainly don't have that lovely underpass that I'm aware of.

Yeah we do. It's just a brown steel on dark brown concrete piers look, right there over I-44!

No, this would be over Grand Boulevard at some point.

actually jbrown, i-44 & grand boulevard are essentially one in the same as you go underneath the bnsf tracks.

check it out (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=35.529179,-97.519004&spn=0.005867,0.011533&t=h&z=17)

I see. So maybe that ornate underpass was built but then torn down to put the interstate through.
