Suburbs feeling the pinch as fuel prices soar - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080710/us_nm/usa_planning_dc)

Interesting to see how the mayor describes our old downtown.

Mick Cornett, the mayor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma said that once the only people who lived in the city's downtown were those who were in jail. "It's a different story today," he said.

The sad thing is Mick finds humor in that. Typical rightwing Republican. Why didn't he just go ahead and say, "And then we got the taxpayers to foot the bill to improve our downtown and, in turn, that has turned it into a private developer's playground. Of course, average wage-earning people can't live there - but hey - this is America!" Of, by and for the rich.

He probably said a number of complimentary things and they chose this comment.

Too bad, that could have been a nice way to plug OKC.

I was living downtown more than ten years ago -- and it wasn't in a jail. Not a real impressive quote by the Mickster.

Unfortunately, I haven't been too impressed with the Mickster ever since the Hornets left. I don't think he's done much since then. Devon did their announcement on their own doing, not because Mick persuaded them.
